The Stalkers bike was there when I popped down from Aberdeen and got my GS done. That was the week before I got the local dealer to fit a set of 2015 heated grips which, by the way, are so fucking hot I can hardly stand to have them on the high setting!

Did you have to pay for the grips upgrade?

Yes I did.....it was a bit of fannying around as the parts dept ordered the correct ones for a 2014 bike which obviously weren't the ones I wanted....and they did it twice! And I was advised that they wouldn't be covered by warranty.

I can't recall the exact price but it was around the 250 quid mark. I will dig out the invoice and give you the exact cost later.

It was fun flicking through this again on a wet Dec night!

A few lines from "the guru" would have put it to bed months ago ... But what he whispers in your ear & what he puts in print seem to be the real issue.

Still, placebo's have a proven record in medicine & I'm sure if throwing £50s at your bike has a similar effect.

Amazing isn't it, BMW have stated time and time again to owners of earlier bikes with rubbish heated grips, the later ones will not work and therefore cannot be replaced under warranty.
They do work though if you are prepared to cough up £250.
BMW are just a bunch of lying bastards !

Another £250 you mean - mine's a base model with selected extras including useless "heated" grips which can only be felt when the temperature is in double digits :blast

My 55 plate had grips so hot you could smell the rubber at a standstill. This bike also had TT guard extensions.

The twin cam's were rubbish, but sort of worked because of the adventure guards giving protection.

The 14 LCs seem no better, but I put a lot of this down to the crap guards.
If I wrap my hands round them & keep them there, they do get quite hot.
But ride 1 handed for 30 secs and the wind blast kills 'em dead.

Put a mug of tea outside on a cold, windy day & see how quickly it goes cold.

I think steel bars & good wind protection was the key to the hot grips on my first bike. :thumb

The 2008 GS MU onwards had ali bars and good heated grips. The 2015 GS has the same. BMW just won't admit that the 2013/14 grips were deficient, even though they've now upgraded them. The handguards may have been part of the issue, but BMW should have taken this into account when designing the bike. There's another thread on the forum where someone's measured the temperatures of the 2013 vs 2015 grips and there's a massive difference.

The actual price was £350....I dug out the invoice. The grips alone cost £250....then they have to recalibrate the e-throttle so you can't even fit them yourself. To be fair to my dealer (John Clarke in Aberdeen) they fitted them without any hassle or argument. And the difference is huge....I have hardly used the high setting

Yes this just adds to the weight of evidence that BMW Motorrad lied to the earlier owners who complained about their heated grips. Allan Jeffries and a person from BMW both told me that it couldn't be done because of differences in the ECU.
DECEITFUL BASTARDS.:mcgun:mcgun:mcgun:mcgun

£350 is a lot of cash for heated grips! and yes BMW I agree with mrtee43 and no doubt lost of others think that you are DECEITFUL BASTARDS that bully dealerships into spinning your lies!

The grips do not actually cost BMW £250 plus fitting, why don't you BMW meet the cost by %50 and give people the option to upgrade?

I keep thinking about the Oxford adventure grips and if they could be fitted satisfactory? I would like to be able revert the bike back to stock if part exchanged or sold?

I don't know if aftermarket grips can be fitted. The right hand grip costs over 3 times the cost of the left hand grip which makes me think that there may be some throttle gubbins attached to it. I got the old grips back so will have a look at them and see what is involved in the change if anyone is interested.

Had mine done by Geoff produced 121bhp, with full akra, brilliant.
So impressed I had the RR done, just before Christmas, only problem is wont get to ride it until February at Cartegena!!!.

I've heard a lot of good things about this guy. What exactly does he do and can I have it done here in the US ?

You can send him your ECU, and he'll work his magic on it, and send it back to you.:thumb
