If only I lived closer…..

Agreed.

If only that Ducati 916 was 150 metres away………

I sold a Harley to a guy in Utrecht and rode it there. Bastards at Halifax gave me a crap exchange rate

It would depend on the bike how I did it. A big bike; public transport there and ride home. A small bike, hire a van and buy some ratchet straps. I did once buy my son a CB125 which I rode from Winchester to Portishead on a very cold early January day. I think I was wearing every bit of riding kit I owned at the time. I still enjoyed the ride but it was bloody freezing. There's a limit as to how far I would ride some small bikes.

Reminds me of the story of the old duffer who posted on here that he got a train to Scotland to collect his newly purchased GS that he bought with his retirement savings online, only to get a taxi from the station to a bogus address on an industrial estate. We had yet another UKGSer whip round in sympathy to help him out.

There's a good reason why some folk are reluctant to travel far to buy a bike after tales like that.

Not everyone selling a bike is a scammer, but they do exist. Never part with money unless the keys are in your hands.

Indeed. Bit of due diligence.

Lots of voice chat.

Google earth the address.

On arrival take photos of seller and house and vehicles on drive.

If someone wants to meet at a random place without engaging with you much, walk away. Plenty more bikes out there.

I’ve done it loads and never been bitten on arse yet.

You’re buying the bike, and a bit of the owner 👍🏽

Exactly. If it’s right, it’s close enough.

IOIWC’ers should be executed.
Kin Ell mate, keep your hair on :blast

Two buses, then travel from Reading to Birmingham (on a train) to ride your new bike 150 miles home

You make it sound like 'Long Way Home'

If you had any mates, they'd have taken you in their car for the cost of some fuel & a chippy tea :fnikefork

My point was that the bullshit of I would have it if it were closer is just that.

Bullshit.

You make my point better than I can, it’s not a big deal.

My mates are all too busy shagging in Marlborough 👍🏽

Anyway…..

Utrecht, Winner 👍🏽

When I was a squaddie, I rode my Buell M2 Cyclone back from Bielefeld to Park Lane London to buy my R1100GS, not sure if that counts, it was in January :)

That 1100GS is still owned by someone on here iirc, T960 AGT :)

The journey back to Germany the next day was far more pleasant, with heated grips and the like on the GS.

Doesn’t count as you were being a ‘tax free buying, fuel coupon using, Wankum frequenting, pikey bastard’ 😂

Harsh .........but fair :) The Buell Reg / Rectifier fell off on the way over and the silly fake throttle butterflies on the Kuryakin air filter froze in the closed position :) It was an eventful ride over, wearing my borrowed fleecy tank suit, when I rocked up at Park Lane, they genuinely looked at me like "Who's this pikey bastard" :)

Happy days, CBR600F tax free from Motorcycle City Aldershot.

Freezing gonads off on way to Dover in NATO Chinese Fighting Order Liners.

Return, Park Lane, pick up 320, rag it for 6 months, sell it back to them for 6000 quid more

I shall visit the gas station at Wankum soon, a reminder of simple happy times 👍🏽

Fantastic.

We have a winner, Utrecht 👍🏽
Nah:

There is a gentleman on this forum who has purchased 3 bikes from me; he travels from Prague each time to mine in the north of Scotland, sleeping in his van en route.

I thought he was a scammer at first; I got a message saying “I will buy your bike for cash, I come from Prague I see you at the weekend”. That was about the sum of the communications, then he called me on the Saturday night saying I’m sleeping in my van not far from you, see you in the morning.

Next day he was there, envelope of cash, no messing or bartering, loaded the bike and off he went.

Fast forward a few years and he came back again and took two at the same time.

He was buying them to sell on, but obviously, distance was no object for the right bikes.

Prague….. Top of the hit parade.

Sounds like a good guy
