Is the SE geared the same as the Adv?
Mine is as I have the Road sprocket fitted.
If I fitted the Off-road,the accel is even better but it's no good for long distance on road.

Which is more than can be said for the photographer
C'mon, you can do better than that! That's a Giles level effort
Andres
........... not painting the subframe though......that's just weird.
.............The thing I didn't like on the 1050 was the cost cutting of the bare alloy subframe and unpainted engine plus some cheaper plastics. Not sure the finish would look great after a winter or two.
950SE - 190KG - 98BHP = 516 BHP per tonne
950 Adventure 198kg - 102BHP = 515BHP per tonne
990 Adventure 209kg - 105BHP = 512BHP per tonne
1050 Adventure 212kg - 96 BHP = 453BHP per tonne
1190 Adventure 212kg - 148BHP = 698BHP per tonne
1290 Super Adventure 229kg - 160BHP = 699 per tonne
Quite interesting / tedious depending on your viewpoint!
However, what it doesn't reflect is usable torque which is more important in the real world than maximum BHP (within reason)
Look at it this way .......
Giles - Am I right or am I right?
Yes they're great bikes, yes I'd have a brand new Blade and an 1299 Panigale if my ticket came in, but to get that buzz, that adrenalin rush, yer going to get a 6 month ban if you're caught. So we have migrated to sit up adventure bikes and back b roads, where you can get the same buzz, but the speeds, and the chance of getting caught are lower.
).
), then certainly for the most part, it was a pretty level playing field in terms of who can go quick and who cant. (It would only be those IOM mountain style sections like Tann Hill where say my 1190 would kiss goodby to Bilko's 800 GS!). But a big BHP bike feels lazy to ride which i quite like. Yes - some peepes would like the buzz of working the nuts off, say a GS 800, but that could get pretty tiring after a while.
So if we take Johhny's Dent ride as an example, (Johnny - yer riding is great but yer photography is shite), then certainly for the most part, it was a pretty level playing field in terms of who can go quick and who cant.

Present and past owners of 11XX GS's with Ohlins know that less is more....
Good suspension, plenty of torque and a good riding position makes for a very satisfying bike
What's the torque of the 1050 like compared to a boxer (feel and actual)
Only lack of suspension quality was a question mark for me, the forks are non adjustable and need some improvement and the rear shock needed a bit of adjusting to suit me, it felt a bit choppy
if it's not going to seduce you with massive power, it better be good on the suspension front - No point buying a 1050 and spending money on upgrading the suspension when the option of a secondhand 1190 (which I assume is better suspended) is available.
And its got a wire wheels

True enough
So, was the suspension actually crap JB or just in need of some miles and adjustment?
The reason I ask is that I remember you saying the V7 suspension was too harsh yet most reports seem to say that set up and 'broken in' it's pretty much ok.
My experience of the 1190 (which admittedly does have good quality suspension) was that the recommended settings were too harsh and that there was so much adjustment potential I ended up having it set up by a tuning shop. This, along with a few miles on it has translated into suspension that is almost a smooth as a GS but with infinitly more feedback and engagement (that's compared to my old GS with Wilbers on).
Now it's all working correctly I can't really imagine suspension much better than this
Andres
I reckon you're right, it's always difficult to get anything right on the initial test ride, I need to have another go (longer) and have a fiddle with the rear suspension, to smooth it out
Not much option on the front, without different grade oil/springs
