Nicely balanced bike, with a bit of zip

Is 96bhp enough?
All of the road tests I've read suggest it's sufficient to get the job done with little difference to the 1190 in the lower rev range, knowing this and knowing the way you ride I'd say it probably is, thinking of joining team evangelical Orange JB ?

Cap'n Slow:D

Gile's bike, the 1190R was certainly very impressive last weekend, never seen one before

Nice bike, the wee 1050...... certainly well put together and KTM are chucking a great deal at it by way of a contribution/rate

More than capable of smooth brisk progress I'd have thought, get it bought, the Orange order will have to put you through the evangelical initiation ceremony, you'll fit right in ;)

KTM have dropped the RRP down to £9995 and there's a further £500 to be had off the dealer :clap

I rode one back to back with a 1290 Super Adventure and preferred the 1050 :thumb2

The more basic bike is definitely appealing but only to a very small minority I'll wager ( of which I'm one ) which is portably borne out by Nice n Fats post. I bet 98% go for he the highly specked versions.

The thing I didn't like on the 1050 was the cost cutting of the bare alloy subframe and unpainted engine plus some cheaper plastics. Not sure the finish would look great after a winter or two.

I was very impressed when I had a look.... But... The 1190R parked next to it, a year older with 3,000 miles for the same price just seemed more tempting.... 10k gets you a good choice... 1190R, new one of these..1200 S10... Competitive Market..

i rarely use the extra 50bhp mine has, but when i do......:green gri

i think the 1050 may be a bit torquier than the 1190 lower down? not sure, just going by the road tests, none of which have been disappointed with the 1050.

glad to see that it's found it's proper price level.

Is it possible to change the mapping and gain extra power? If wanted.

Look at it this way,

You'll use 90% of the 95 BHP much easier than using 75% of the 150BHP for 70% of the time.

It's not about the power, it's about how you use it.

I know I bang on about my 950 all the time but it's lowly 100bhp is more than enough for me to to keep up with Giles on his 1190 in all but the fastest open stretches when way above 3 figures. if that's what you're looking for then spend the extra £5k on an 1190. If not then that 'little' 1050 seems like a cracking bike to me!

Giles - Am I right or am I right?

Totally agree with that statement .... the non LED indicators look particularly tacky :blast

Plus your 950 is possibly quite a bit lighter too , especially compared to say a 1290 , which will make up some of the deficit anyway.

Unless you are two up and loaded on any bike 100bhp is plenty enough for the road .... full stop... IMHO:aidan

That's a good shout. It then beg's the question, what's the difference in weight between a 950 / 1050 / 1190?

All dry weights :

950 Adventure 198kg
990 Adventure 209kg
1050 Adventure 212kg
1190 Adventure 212kg
1290 SA 229kg

Lastly but least :

950 SuperEnduro

190kgs !!! Which is why I suppose my SE feels so much quicker than my Adv950S felt.

Is the SE geared the same as the Adv?

950SE - 190KG - 98BHP = 516 BHP per tonne
950 Adventure 198kg - 102BHP = 515BHP per tonne
990 Adventure 209kg - 105BHP = 512BHP per tonne
1050 Adventure 212kg - 96 BHP = 453BHP per tonne
1190 Adventure 212kg - 148BHP = 698BHP per tonne
1290 Super Adventure 229kg - 160BHP = 699 per tonne

Quite interesting / tedious depending on your viewpoint!

However, what it doesn't reflect is usable torque which is more important in the real world than maximum BHP (within reason)
