Keyless bike how safe.

it might not be perfected yet, but i'd say it's definitely the future.

the "key" will be in your phone before too long ;)

As will an increasing number of things....

And that's great, 'till you lose the phone,

Or it 'crashes'...

I'll take my chances, with a plain key

No immobiliser or transponder, no keyless

If i'm worried about security, i'll just take an old fashioned chain and padlock

Yup, 'physical security', plus some common sense, works for me!

(So far..........................................................................)

FFS Keyless ignition has been around for years.

So what is SO different.

Volvo do it
BMW do it
Volkswagen do it

etc
etc
etc

Never had an issue in my Volvo

One difference to bikes, all the car electrics are 'wrapped' inside a waterproof steel box...................unlike the bike's dshboard;)

Will unlock the panniers too, or undo the seat lock?

Define progress?

Is this it?

of course it will, on an RT at least. why wouldn't it? do cars come without central locking in yorkshire? not fiddle arseing around with a big bunch of keys sounds like progress to me.

if you lose your phone, you'll need a spare or use your wife's, or maybe just call BMW assist just like you would if you lost your key. right now you can pay for things with a phone, open your hotel room door, board a plane etc. some people even use them to make phone calls :)
seems entirely logical to me that eliminating the current "keyless" entry card is inevitable.

...and it seems to me that immobilisers and transponders have been reasonably successful in preventing cars getting nicked. not totally obviously, and the situation is a bit different with bikes as they are just lifted away, but we know chains and locks don't work either.

Exactly. You won't have an issue on the GS either, but this lot want everyone to think it is doomed.

Same old moaners living in the dinosaur age it's progress move with it or feck off! I will get my coat!!
