Has anyone managed to locate a connector / lead / adapter that enables fitting of the horn without having to cut off the BMW connector and fit spade connectors.
Just thought I would ask before I get out the snips and the soldering iron.

Also anyone know how to get the new post title to appear in bold text, my posts always appear in light type

BMW main dealer said it's not available as a seperate plug and is not used on any other connection on the bike.
So after visiting as many auto electricians as I could find, as well as Lucas and motor spares shops I have given in on locating a plug to fit that fits. :duno

I have drilled the plug off the BMW horn with a smallish drill, and soldered two flying leads with a couple of spade connectors on. It means I will have to buy another original horn if I ever sell the bike, probably leave it on though.
At least I haven't had to cut off the plug :thumb

(now waiting for some :GS:er to tell me Maplins nearby sell them for 24p and they have hundreds in stock :mcgun)

Bananaman. Thanks for the info. I am in the same position. Magnum on the bench and looking for a connectoer. I will attack the OE horn with a drill next wweekend.

I've been the Maplin route, and nothing suitable as far as I could discover ; so I was also wondering about somehow removing the BMW connector from the horn, and doing what you've suggested . Was it tricky to drill-off the BMW connector ? I've only had a quick look at the BMW horn and put it back on the bike -....any chance of a 'pic' ?
Soldering's not a problem !!

Complete bollocks! (Assuming you've a 1200)

Vines sold me Service part number 80 00 0 610 619 a month ago. It was under a tenner. Remember it's a service item, not a parts item - there's two sets of fiches - you need to get them to look at the Service one.

Sorry didn't think to take pics, but it was very easy to do, (it must be as I did it) Just removed the two soft plastic/rubbery blobs to reveal where the terminals are connected to the horn, I think the connector is soldered onto the horn contacts.
Just put a small drill down the centre first as a pilot, 1/16 inch in old money, then a slightly larger one about 1/18 inch. The connector plug then came loose on one side and I just (gently) persuaded the other one off with a screwdriver. If I did it again I would try with an even smaller drill second time to see if I could get the connector off with an even smaller hole.

I put some suitable foil over the bottom of the holes and taped it on to stop the solder running through and out the bottom when soldering on the wires.
Fit the two spade connectors and plastic covers that come with the Magnum horn to the ends of two pieces of wire , I thought about 4 inches was about the right length.
The holes on the connector filled in quite neatly with solder, but you need to be quick so as not to melt the surrounding plastic on the connector.
Also put blobs of araldite on the exposed solder when cool to stop and chance of shorting.

I used the original mounting plate from the BMW horn and cable tied the connector to the bracket to secure it. Just make sure you mount the connector close to the horn so as to make sure you can fit it to the bike again without it catching.
Lastly I did use an anti shake washer and threadlock when re fitting the horn to the bracket.
After all that I don't want the horn to fall off :blast

I have an 1150GSA, but BMW still told me that the plug piece, ie the same sex as the connector on the horn, is not available at all:confused:

Crimpted on some bullet connectors. Would then do the same to the OEM horn should I ever wish to put back on. Not quite sure why I ever would though??

Just for information, Nippy Norman is supplying the connectors as Hard wiring kit for BMW bikes with Can-Bus wiring Suitable for twin F650GS, F800GS, 1200GS etc.

So you can get your stebel magnum and wiring kit at the same time and keep your OEM loom intact :beerjug:

The Can Bus socket is available (to order) from Murketts BMW in Huntingdon.

Ordered over the phone 3-5 days, should be here this week
