My bike has gone back to BMW

That's the point. The bike wasn't deemed unsafe. I had two choices - let BMW fix the bike under warranty, obviously at no cost to me, or pay a small amount to have the bike replaced. I chose the latter. Simple.:thumb

I'm a long term (very satisfied) customer of Vines. They do a great job for me and, I'm sure, any customer that has a genuine gripe.

Of course things go wrong and mistakes happen, it's the fixing of them that shows the difference between excellent and indifferent customer service.

In this case it seems to me to be an excellent result all round and I would be delighted with such a deal.

BTW Nutty are you on the Vines coach to the NEC in a couple of weeks?

Your bike, your money, your choice .......no real debate :)

Rich, been to do the docs on my bike today, took a picture for you.

Looks very nice in blue, I made the right choice colour wise, additional lights to fit than I can collect.

(Rear brake pedal is same as my 13 plate)

I just wonder what will happen to these rejected bikes ?

Will they quietly reappear on dealers forecourts ready to be sold to some unsuspecting punter. Maybe there should be a "sticky" with registration numbers of these bikes so any prospective
buyer on this site is aware and can act accordingly.

Why shouldn't they if they are repaired properly?

I wonder how many of the moaners on this site actually own BMWs (or indeed any bike at all?)

I saw my old bike, its had a new frame, gearbox rod, rear bevel boot, and will have washers under pillion pegs for the fitment of panniers, at the mo its on BMW's in house dealers auction site and will be sold to the highest dealer bid and than put out for retail, the new owner will never no its history and the fact its been on its side !! Scary !! I think ill buy brand spank new every time from now, at least ill no its history.

Yep, far better to buy a f*cked up one from the factory than one that's been identified as faulty and repaired!!:D

That's one thing I'm not prepared to do, as wapping as stated its no longer our problem, BMW have rectified our problems to a satisfactory ending, my dealer has gone far beyond my expectations and therefore I'm not prepared to jeopardise my relationship with my dealer or BMW, and sometimes what you don't no wont hurt you.

I've been a beta tester now I've got the finished product, 2 bikes for the price of one.

Bods have enough problems reading all the other (helpful) stickies; what makes you think a prospective 1200 buyer will trouble themselves with looking at yet another.

What, if they do? What will they learn? How will they contact you (or you them) to discuss the finer details via PM? They can't as you are not a subscriber, forcing the pair of you to conduct your intimate exchange through the channels of UKGSer.com, much to everyone's boredom.

What if the vehicle has a cherished registration? You know, something like NUT 1 E or MRT 43? That won't be going back through the dealer network, that's for sure. Your cunning plan will founder on the rocks, like so many others.

i suspect nuttys bike will go to the bm refurbishment center then on to the dealer auction site.

Where mrtee43 will, like so many proud repospondents before him on UKGSer, will buy it.

Patting himself on the back (and reporting to the world at large) that he has snapped up a dealer approved, full balance of original warranty (along with any additional bits of bling, free services, tank of fuel, 20% off a helmet rub, road tax....) he can negotiate / haggle / screw out of the salesman, bargain.

And live happily ever after, no doubt.

It's not a repaired insurance claim bike, though there are plenty of those sitting quite happily in dealerships and sold every day through the pages of MCN or even (whisper it)........ by bikers to bikers, through the FSW section of UKGSer.

Imagine if you will that I drop my motorcycle into a ditch. I don't fancy claiming off my insurance (the robbing sods never pay, mate) so I repair it myself using parts sourced from the internet. Parts that themselves may well have come from stolen or crashed bikes, but they were cheap so who cares. The bike is back up and running, no evidence that it had ever graced a ditch in its life.

I then run the bike which, to all intents and purposes is fine. What was once broken, is now replaced. It's otherwise perfectly normal.

I then (six months later) part exchange it through a BMW dealership. It's not a write off (there was no claim), it looks and goes as well as any other bike of its age and mileage. We strike a deal.... And the dealer puts it onto his forecourt, with whatever warranty BMW dealers usually give. Someone buys it. Everyone is happy.

Absolutely agree 100% what you say but this is not the case, the dealer knows so, as long as it's disclosed fine....

If the bike was repaired, officially.... ridden by the current owner then part exchanged because he wanted a new model/colour. Fine no problem.....

Not sure this will be the case....will it..

But hey...I'm sure it will all be fine as long as it goes through the proper BM quality checks!!!!

Where does this dream of unscrupulous dealers come from?

Nobody here has the faintest idea what will happen to Nut's bike. For all anyone knows it will be crushed or returned to Munich to be hung as a weight around the neck of that production week's quality control leader (believe me they will know exactly who put it all together, when and who signed it off) just before they throw him into the Rhine. Yes, I know the Rhine does not flow through Munich, but you get the picture.

Or it will be repaired (what did bods / dealers declare when they part exchanged / re-sold the bikes that dropped a valve, I wonder? Feck all, no doubt) and sold with a full warranty via a mainstream dealership, or repaired and flogged on to a re-seller, or not repaired and flogged on.... Or a flight of very large bats might come along and carry it off the the planet Zog, where the keeper of the Ring of Zarg will use it to prop the door open.

Of all the possible possibilities, I favour the very large bats. I know the keeper of the Ring of Zarg; he's been on the look-out for a door stop for weeks.

42 posts.... Then repeated after 85 posts, the 'Not fit for purpose' pops up.

I reckon, 103 will see suggestions that the criminal courts would have been a better solution for poor old Nutty, who alone seems quite happy with what he has been offered / managed to negotiate. Happy enough anyway to have shared it with everyone. How he must be kicking himself now; if only he had come here first and not troubled himself with senior executives of BMW.

115 should see the 'Kill the dealer, rape his wife and torch his dog' merchants out in full cry. I do hope I got those three individuals' punishments in the right order.

thats one gorgeous looking bike yoof, best colour:thumby:

The old one was back in the showroom up for sale the following week...

That is outrageous. Did your friend do nothing? Where was this dealership? When did it happen? Like certain London streets, bikers need to be told who and where to avoid. There could be someone out there riding a repaired bike.... Or a death trap. Publish the number plate at once and make sure it is circulated widely.
