Back to it.............
This got put on the back burner unfortunately as I had a few issues to deal with. However, I’m now ready to continue with it.
Engine is back from Norman White,frame is now powder coated along with various other bits Including the gearbox cradle.

Just a shame they vibrate so well - still isolastics have it covered. Do NW work on the balance factor I wonder?

That all looks so nice and shiny. If I was putting the engine back in I’d be sure to scratch the frame paint no matter how careful I was. Are we going to see how it should be done?

Gearbox is now mostly done. New bearings and bushes. There is wear on this kickstart pawl. Not really sure if it is too bad but will
Get it replaced just in case. I can then fit the inner and outer cover.

I wouldn't worry about that pawl, it's good for about another 50,000 miles
They go like that very quickly, and the one in my 1926 Norton is much the same

I have no doubt you are probably right,it won’t be the first thing I’ve renewed that was perfectly ok. The bearings in the bloody gearbox all looked and felt ok,but when you’ve got it apart you think that you may as well fit new. I’m sure everyone rebuilding an old bike does the same. With the gearbox,I had to open it all up to check that the deadly lay shaft bearing had been upgraded................which it had.
So while I wait for the kickstart pawl................today,the engine goes in!

I find gearboxes fascinating, wonderful pieces of engineering but the thought of taking one apart would scare me shitless due to my ineptitude! Love watching you blokes who are capable of doing it though, crack on!

They certainly are. And even better when they’re in the frame

My two sons came over today to put the engine in,obviously whilst staying at a safe distance............
All went well with no damage to the frame,it was actually fairly straightforward.
