I have just been on the blower to those nice peeps at FTR Suspension, after having read a very positive post from another inmate regarding thier suspension upgrade for the 800GS. This consists of a fully adjustable Ohlins rear shock unit, new progressive rate front springs (again Ohlins) with a heavier grade fork oil,and all associated parts. The price quoted for all this bouncy goodness, including same day fitting and tweaking to suit you sir (or madam!), is £935 which I thought seems reasonsble, though far from peanuts! However,-
they also said that if I found another four inmates interested in the same work, they could offer a 20% discount, which, given the fairly mediocre off road performance of the standard set up (IMO),would make it a must have for me!:thumb
So,next question is,anybody else interested in a little jaunt to Bury St Edmunds
next month or so?By the way,it doesnt affect the bikes warranty, and FTR guarantee all parts and work done for three years!
Get in touch boys n`gurls. You know it makes sense:aidan

Excellent GunZ!:) In fact I think it works out around £750! Now we jus need another 3 pioneers and we`re away.....
Guess we just watch this space and wait for the team to assemble

I dont actually get my grubby mitts on my bike till the beginning of next month,
but after several hundred miles on a standard 800GS, getting the seat and suspenders sorted will go a long way to making this my ideal steed.

Guilty confession, have already ordered a wee farkle or two in anticipation.Couldnt help myself, its a drug :drool

Bump for the pioneers :bounce1 :bounce1 :bounce1

Hi skon,

This realy is a good deal, its not a lot less for just the rear shock from TT bearing in mind they fit it and supply and fit the front and set it up :thumb2

when they said they would offer discount I did not realise it would be that good:thumb2 hats off to the FTR guys :clap

Next week end me and the Guys i'm off to france in August with are going for a 450 mile ride as this is what we intend to average each day on our Alps and beyond run. So will give my Ohlin a good work out :D :bounce1

I'm going to fill my tank zero the miles and run my tank dry and see what it does in real MPG terms.

But be warned the Ohlin and front fork upgrade will give -increased :D:D:D:D:D:D :thumb2

FTR Ohlins discount

SKON,

In order to get the number required for the discount, do they need all bikes in the workshop at the same time, or just a commitment from the required number? I could be interested, but work overseas so organising around a specific time might be tricky as I often don't know when I'll next be in the country.

If I could pay deposit to FTR to help get the discount then arrange an independent time to have the work done it could be viable.

Cheers! :beerjug:

Sounds like the perfect dry run for your alpine exploits, and proper workoutfor your new `pioneered` super-glide Geeser:thumb
Good plan to work out a proper miles per,I agree tis the only sure way to find out on real roads. That computer doesnt seem to be too reliable for fuel remaining guestimates does it.Im not having it on mine, put the cash towards a LeoVince instead:drool
You do realise you are now lead pioneer! Blazing a brave trail, putting your hard earned where your a**e sits, and shining a much needed
light into the darkness of wallowing front ends and bottoming rears!Good on ya mate:clap

Have a great, safe and smooooth rideout, and no doubt full o

:beerjug: Hi Ewan!

Jus been back on the telling-bone with FTR and they said that they dont need (or want!) all the bikes in at once. What they said was that when we
have got the requisite 5 pioneers together,we advance them 20% of the newly discounted price (be about £150 each) We need to co-ordinate that so they get the readys at more or less the same time(day?). Then we sit back gnawing our fingernails until they call/e mail us that the bits are in,and we can then make individual arrangements with them for a suitable fitting day
I mentioned one of the interested worked offshore`and would only be available at certain times, and that was no prob at all.As long as the deposits go in together, seems like job`s a good`un :Motomartin
Ps.Actual quote from Kevin at FTR was £932 before multibike 20% discount:thumb

Hi PUMA/Dean

Just remember that the fuel pump uses..... FUEL to keep it cool, and does not LIKE to run on empty, as far as I know. This does not mean it CANNOT run (on) empty, so I will let others more technical than I advixe here, but I have read on ADVRider of a theoretical risk with running the bike dry...?
Cheers

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the heads up, i thought that the fuel pump includes a device to sense if the tank is dry. They use that info to stop the pump so the pump doesn't damage itself trying to run with no fuel :nenau

Well,at least if you`re up in the high alpine passes, the freewheel down to the garages in the foothills should be interestin!:eek

Time to bump!:bounce1:bounce1:bounce1
So far, 2yes def,and one possible. We need 5deffos to claim our lovely discounted suspensions from FTR,so.....get in touch and lets hit the trails
with confidence, and beer money still in our bumbags:beerjug:
Once there are enough takers,I will contact FTR and see what arrangements

Good man Jay, hope your well :thumb

Yeah, not bad. Current job coming to an end, still waiting to hear on the next one. If I get it I'll be up for upgrading the suspension on the bike. Should know next week or so. Will see what I can find out from the company above and whether an 1150 would be in for the group discount.

Take care,

J.

Pretty sure they would be happy to include your 1150 for the multi bike sconti.
They seem like a good crew there.If so,nearly there!:clap

Was confused there for a moment,my name is Jay too,but was sure I hadnt posted it anywhere!:hide

called them this morning and they're happy to have any BMW on the group buy list. Prices for my 1150 are as follows. All prices are plus vat, but there's 20% discount on these.

Front £526
Rear £581 (adjustable rebound only)
Rear £754 (adjustable compression and rebound)

fitting is £80/single shock, £120 both shocks.

You don't have to have the bikes all done at the same time, just have the deposits taken and you can then call them when you have the balance of the money and they'll order in your shock for you. This is handy if you can't afford it quite yet.

I'll know in the next week or so if I can do this, so will get back to you then. I'll also post this in the 1100/1150 section as that might increase numbers for the group buy.

J.

Great stuff Mr M .That sounds pretty good all round doesnt it? Good idea posting on the 1100/1150 section,I reckon we could end up with quite a few inmates up for this little upgrade.
If you find yourself in the position to go ahead, let us know and we can make a move:clap
niko, cant imagine any probs having the bits posted to you, they seem like a top crew, and Im sure as long as you got your deposit in,you would get the group buy discount.
Prob have to pay full postage tho!

Hi Timpo, thats great, sounds like the FTR boys are going to be fighting off tossers from all directions!
For some reason beyond my rudimentary grasp of the virtual multiverse, your post has shown up in my e mail in box but not (so far) here on this thread:confused: Im sure they have teams of techno bod on it right now so nowt to worry about.Your names on the list :thumb
Its just an idea, but I was thinking if all who are def up for this could PM me
say middle of next week, with contact details,I then contact FTR and start the ball rolling.Once we have the all clear from them,I would post the word on here
and all concerned could then arrange deposits directly with FTR.As I say just an idea, but might save a bit of confusion.Any ideas?
