Any tips on how I can tell if I've overfilled my 12GS with oil? Not sure if I have or not, but also not sure if it sounds a bit odd when it's running... it may just be my hearing starting to fail me. Any suggestions. Would I see blue smoke coming out the exhaust etc....?

errrrrrrr yes, check the oil level window have you? :D

edit: If you have over filled it - Don't Panic! It won't do any harm as the manual suggests. It will smoke at start up if you park it on the side stand. The only possible problem if it is over full could be that oil will blow into airbox and reduce the life of your air filter. The 1150 has a drain plug on the airbox, I don't know if the 1200 does? :thumb2

double edit: I forgot! It's a 1200 isn't it, so if the oil is 0.1cc above the recommended level the engine will explode :D

well the first question has to be - Have you read any part of your bike manual?

second question is - how do you normally check your oil level?

(you DO check your oil level dont you?)

Go out for a long ride to get the engine hot. Park the bike on a level surfance, on its centre stand with the engine still running. Turn bike off. Leave ten minutes. Read level in sight glass, what do you see?

Take the bike off the stands and have someone lean the bike over a bit to the right hand side make sure the bike is on level ground then you look at the oil level site glass if you have only over filled it a wee bit you will see the oil level show its self in the glass so dont worry. If you have to lean the bike over a lot befoe you see the oil level then I would drain some out.

LMAO:roll:D

:strip off lay in the road and get someone to run over you with your bike try to make them run straight over your plums if it does not hurt oil is at the correct level :)

:robWould this method work if you had TKC80's fitted?would you not run the risk of having one of the little devils fall inbetween the tread?:rob

Im not worried myself as im sure all of mine would be register some kinda pain straight away,Im just worried about you less well endowed, mind you it does explain why some still insist on riding 1150's:augie

if tks' are fitted you have to do 3 runs then take an average, only thing i know about 1150's is they run on coal:P
