Please respond if you've NOT had a 1200GS/GSA fuel pump controller failure

Dec 04 Bike owned from new, 30K now, all weathers, no fuel pump failure. (plenty other common issues though!) but Bike is pretty reliable and it doesn't even cross my mind that it might let me down.

Mates bike is a year younger, his FPC failed at 16K, his also ridden all weathers. (and has also had the other common issues too!)

Bikes don't stand for any length of time.

Beware of adding your name here. :rob

There have been 25 fuel pump controller failures in the last two months, two of which involved owners who had previously responded on this thread.

The clock is ticking for the rest of you. :)

Apologies if this info' has been posted elsewhere.

Try and see this week's MCN.....Page 13 headline

'BMW ADMITS QUALITY CONTROL ISSUES'

The article contains a number of quotes from Adrian Roderick (BMW UK general manager)

The gist of the article was that BMW were fully aware of the EWS and fuel pump controller problems on the R1200GS.
BMW would not be recalling 'bikes, but dealers would replace faulty components when the 'bikes were serviced.

The article concluded with...

'A BMW spokesman said dealers had now been told to contact customers and inform them of potential faults from September'

After someone :thedummy and moderated the comments from Wapping & I, I want to add some balance to the fuel pump controller thread.

Please add your name (or details of a friend) if you have NOT had a fuel pump controller failure on a 1200GS or 1200GSA.

- rider name
- bike details (model and year)
- mileage
- typical weather conditions ridden in
- is the bike stored for long periods of time

had my 06 GSA for 23 months (before I colided with a transit van and wrote it off) did 18.5K miles on it and apart from a battery failure and corrosion on the crash bars (both changed under warranty) had no major problems. The battery was my own fault I work offshore for a month at a time and didn't use an optimate... lesson learnt !

Hi all,

Cliff Grant
1200GS 07 plate
10000 miles
All weather
No Fuel pump fail

Rear brake pedal adrift on way home from picking the bike up
EWS replaced as recall in August
Side panel ripped off (broken clip on the front, now replaced with 'torx?')

I was however stranded in Hawes on sunday, just filled the tank up and nothing, just ignition but nothing else. EWS came up 3 times but apparently that was caused by the battery making and breaking connections internally, one minute it was fine and then the next minute there it was....gone....
Mr BMW (thanks muchly Paul) came out and sorted it yesterday, the battery decided to go completely. first class guy.
