Pro Gear Assist for 2014 GS

If you're down to your last £500, I see your point.:thumb But Derek isn't.:rob:beerjug::D

You missed the point again:blast

It was never about money:D

It was about choice

No wonder BMW GS riders are sometimes the laughing stock, amongst others:blast

I'm starting to believe it too:D

Whooosh;)

You're missing my point John.:blast Derek is happy to buy one without trying it, as am I. If it doesn't live up to expectations, we can remove it and sell it on. You're the one that said you could spend £500 on a trip away, instead (where I have no idea:P).

As you say, whoosh.:D

The GS genre is so far removed nowadays, it's turned into something else

Never mind chaps..................carry on into 2014 and beyond, but it's certainly not for me anymore

Adios:thumb2

I'm picking up tips from the ABR Forum

Calais ferry, middle of night

Wild camping and DIY cooking

Those lads, seem to manage on a mere £500 for 2 weeks all in

Watching their tips with interest:D

That's a holiday? Sounds more like a post-apocalyptical survival course :P. It'll pay for a nice weekend in Scotland though.

The quick shift on the K1300S is fun, but it was a bit hit and miss on the demo bike I tried. I can't see a system which also works on the down change being good for gearbox longevity :nenau

My thoughts exactly, i recon they expect the slipper to take up the difference in the down shifts, needless to say I've tried hard to get the slipper to work, and I've also locked the wheel up downshifting in the alps and still no action from the slipper. As this option is only available on build bikes from 2014 maybe they have fitted a different slipper !

The bods that have ordered the Q'S I'm sure you'll like it, a lot. :)

Even though its fitted you don't have to use it? but its there when you need too:-)

Big Derek, the screenshot that I posted IS from page 47 of your link. here it is again:
Can you show what you are looking at which says that this shift thing is available for a GSA ?

I'll admit that it is on a page related to both R1200 and R1200GSA, but there are other things on that page which are not available on both models. Therefore, room for confusion there.

I think if you ask your dealer like we did it's just the wording from the same add as the GS but they confirmed it's all good to go for the GS or GSA as long a sits 2014 model:-) As I said both myself and my pal Tosser Saw have bikes ordered with the speed shifters ... its a workshop dealer fit not factory i believe.
Tossser Saw's is coming with black screen and black winglets and White ....(Booooring) :hide Both LE models include the biscuit tin std exhausts can't bring myself to pay £840 for the Akra and only save .05lb in weight.....We want big hand guards.... and I may re fit round mirrors ? Don't know yet.My Panza Green will be the first matt colour bike i have owned.Cant wait for March bring it on!

Can someone tell us about the mechanical sympathy for the gearbox, with these Quickshifter/Proshifter/Pro Gear Assist systems? I'm not convinced, but willing to listen.........paging Steptoe :nenau

I was thinking that the bike adjusted the throttle to automatically take all the load off the gears. Its not just a case of banging the gears through, and its not the same as an aftermarket ignition-kill type quickshifter.

As far as I can guess, you still have to 'bang the gears through', but the shifter either kills the fuelling, or the ignition (no idea which, perhaps both ?) in a microsecond as soon as you 'bang' the gear lever, allowing the rider to maintain the throttle position ?:nenau

It kills the ignition for a fraction of a second, unloading the gearbox.

Flash upwards through the gears as fast as you like, not closing the throttle and not touching the clutch. Nothing will break, Grinning GSer.

Link it to a slipper clutch and you can smash down through the gearbox and not lock the back wheel ( subject to the limitations of the system).

I'm told that pro shift will also do downshifts, as per the new RT.
However, from BMW dealer:
"BMW have confirmed that the pro-shifter is not yet planned to be available for the new GSA and is not standard on the machine.

As with all these things it could potentially become available in the future."
