Had my bike in for a service and first mot at the weekend . Bike passed mot but is getting a new engine fitted in the next fortnight after 2 small blisters were found on the paintwork of the engine. Was about to change to a 1300gsa but in 2 minds what to do now.

Had similar on my 1250GS, cases swapped rather than whole engine. Be interested in response too.

I was told by BMW Motorrad that they don’t do that anymore.
They change the outer casings.

Obviously a lot more time consuming for the dealer to change the cases.
With a large labour bill being paid for by the mother ship.

With a motor costing around £10k + fitting costs retail, I still struggle with the logic of this approach, if there is nothing materially/mechanically wrong. Changing just the cases also seems a waste of valuable workshop time for the dealer, when paid at fixed Berlin warranty time/rates, albeit good experience for the techs.

Agreed, the customer shouldn't be losing out financially come next change, but surely there has to be a more eco friendly solution.
