R1300GS / the good the bad & the ugly

I wonder where the press bikes are and why the first real numbers on dyno and weight have not come out yet ? Come on Bennetts give us that R1250/1300GS review we are all waiting for...LOL
Or some guys here at least after a demo ride giving some first impressions after a 15 minute ride around the block...

They’re just having a recall done . Should be all fixed next week

@roundincircles...20 liters is the bare minimum so 19 is a cruel joke no matter how efficient the new higher compression motor might be...Fact is if the new engine makes 9 hp more it will consume more gas if you use the additional power...My fuel light on the 1250 sometimes comes on on the 100 mile mark and 150 miles is pushing it when I run hard...Like I said the ADV will have a big enough tank but I really dont want to go back to the big beast but 24 which was the standard BMW tank size would have been perfect...19 liters and lithium battery are just cynical marketing tricks to get the weight down as an aluminum frame instead of the Hoda Monkey presses steel frame probably would have netted 5 kilos. for real and I would have gladly paid for it..LOL But I am not an engineer and stand correcyed if it wasnt so and aluminum would have been to finicky but even Moto-X bikes use aluminum frames dont they ?
100 miles!! It has 6 gears, try them rather than riding everywhere in 1st.

I'm beginning to wonder about the weight reduction, v the 1250, claims. So a lithium battery, 1 kilo, reduction in tank size, 1 kilo, shorter wheelbase, 1 kilo, anemic steel frame, I kilo, fewer decals and thinner paint, 1 kilo, lighter foam in the comfort seat, 1 kilo, shorter stroke and wider bore ( fresh air is lighter than metal), 1 kilo, higher revs to achieve torque claims, 1 kilo, no rear indicators ( integrated somewhere else), 1 kilo......wire wheels have different construction....lots of kilos.....

@roundincircles...If they did not weigh in the centerstand, pass pegs, luggage rack it will be only 8 kilos lighter...The missing liter and lithium battery brings the true savings down to 5 kilos...Not much ! If you opt for forged wheels you save 4 over spoke wheels...9 hp more / 9 kilos less and I hear the Akra is quieter than the stock 1250 exhaust...Not very enticing as I wanted LOUDER & more POWER...LOL The sign of the times as everything goes to sheet...LOL
Jefformston...20 mpg using all 6 gears keepng it WFO...Most of the times...LOL

I am looking forward to the test ride so I can decide myself , not on the long , expansive and generally magazine quoted information on a loop. A test will answer all questions , a good 4 hr ride on roads you know will always sort the information we have been fed.
A pre programmed attitude is dangerous , small minded and may also be wrong.

I must be in the minority as I like the direction they are going with the GS, making it smaller and easier to handle is always better, no one wants their bike to be heavier. It is actually the same weight as the first 1200LC within in a kilo and that came with a centre stand. I didn't like the 1250 and I probably won't like the power delivery of this shift cam motor, but I love the look of it and will take it for a test ride. If I had one it would be the standard or the trophy. I don't go in for all the accessories and luggage.

What's your concern about the shift cam? I've only ridden a 1250R and thought it was even better than my 1200R. The main point being the linear drive from the word go in the rev range. Like the step up in go you get mid-range on the 1200 engine, but starting from almost the get-go.

Without going into details, my GS has that get up and go from the off, I found the shift came flat at the bottom end and that’s where I want my response as I ride off road a lot and not into high speed road riding.

Perhaps the fuelling is different on the 1250R compared to the GS? BikeSocial claimed back in 2015 that the 1200R had more torque throughout the range than the 1200GS, GSA or RT, though same peak value. My 1200R always felt more lively than the 1200GS I owned concurrently.

My fuelling and ignition is not stock

GB there is no comparison between a 1200 and a 1250 with 2 camlobes one for bottom and mid range Torque and the other for modest power…The 1200?feels like stale coffee compared to a strong cappucino or low fat milk compared to a rich latte…LOL That is why I am concerned about the 1300 going back to the shorter stroke of the 1200 without raising the rpm limit to at least bring up the rpm/power to 155 or so hp to take advantage of the shorter stroke as plus 6 newtonmeters will be barely noticeable…And yes Stick you are right I also dont give much or anything what the whined & dined presstitutes say but in case of Bennets 1200/1250 comparo we saw real dyno , mpg , weight & roll-on numbers which are always interesting ! Looking forward to the same on 1250/1300 and if the numbers are convincing I might be in the market for the new Adventure because the small 19 liter tank is a non starter for me ! They should bring a 24 l option and bring the stroke up and give the engine 115KW/lb-ft which translates into 156hp/nm and call it enough !

Don’t care for that horse power figure, I would have been happy with 110hp and 200kg. Stock 1200 are a bit flat to say the least, can’t agree more with you.

The problem with raising the rpm is the boxer engine foams oil so it would have to be a dry sump motor.

Yes and 3 bearing crankshaft but I think the new engine is a semi dry sump so foaming should be no issue…Looking forward to a testride but less sound from the Akra compared to the stock 1250 exhaust and numbers dont look too exciting…Like the former BMW Motorrad Boss said the new GS does not need more power…He might be right but you dont need a motorcycle but we Want more power or want motorcycles because they are toys supposed to be fun and satisfy our Wants ! And a GS is supposed to look unique and like a GS and not me too nice ! Hope the new BMW Motoboss &! new head of design understands these facts…

I will have a closer look tomorrow if I can get mine back on the road tonight.

Normally I don’t like something in the pictures but when I see it in the flesh I like it, hope it isn’t the other way round this time as I love what I have seen on the net so far.
