R65LS

And that’s why I buy new bikes….I am totally inept when it comes to what you do with some of the bikes that you buy.

Always great to watch you pull something around though. Thank you.

Just waiting on another pair of hands to lift the engine out of the frame .....

Swinging arm locknuts were only hand tight , rear shock mounting bolts were loose , front cover and starter motor cover bolts were all loose

Forgot to put up the picture of the oil pressure relief valve - as reported the piston is free moving and the spring appears OK

Teardown of the engine is next but not until next weekend as the clutch pushrod bearing replacement for the Moto Guzzi is my next job

The timing chain guide slipper is not fitted correctly (LH)
It should rest lightly on the chain, when the chain is under tension,
not pushing it in as that one is

Not even 2 weeks and it’s stripped 😲

It’s not just what you do, but the tempo that is impressive.

Great work and interesting to follow 👍

Engine out ready for stripping

Fitted a second hand centre stand to the Guzzi Breva 1100 and started stripping parts off ready to do the clutch pushrod bearing (apologies to the Airhead fraternity for posting pictures of an Italian in the German zone )

Corrected , I wonder what else I’ll find that the previous owners have done incorrectly ?

By the way, unfortunately I don't have a spare caliper dust boot. I certainly did have as well as pistons, but I must have binned them after all. Which is uncharacteristic of me 🙄

Thanks for getting back to me , I’ll have to order a full refurb kit

Sorry. No. I haven't got them on my bike at all. I was missing a fairing mount bracket and I struggled to find one of those. Usual sources are Motorworks or Sherlocks. I think it looks OK without them. Why not just take the lhs one off?
Picked these up today....

Heads and barrels stripped off , pistons removed and cam followers removed

Cam followers are in good condition and the barrels are also in good condition

This confirms along with what looks like fairly new SS pushrod tubes that the engine has had refurb work previously

The pushrods are also numbered up with paint marker further confirming previous work has been done

Next job is to give the outer engine casing a good clean and the de-coke the heads and barrels and remove and inspect the valves

Level plug on the final drive had been stripped by previous owner so fixed that . Opened it up to inspect it and check there was no swarf in the drive . Re-assemble with new gasket and output shaft seal

At a guess, lots. Sounds like he threw it together just to see the back of it, wanker.
I think its seen an increasing amount of "make mend and do" jobs as it's went through it's latter years instead of fixing it properly

I've now inspected most of it so hopefully no more hidden gremlins and I can get on and start getting it back together

Cylinder heads and pistons de-coked and cleaned , barrels cleaned and checked . Valves lapped in

Cleaned the engine block then fitted the pistons , barrels , heads and set the valve clearances

Next job is to remove the clutch , flywheel and oil pump , check everything over and re-assembe with a new rear main seal and new o-rings
