I have mounted my starcom and radio in the tray that used to hold the huge tookit.
Went out the other day with a friend with the same setup. All working fine, stopped for petrol and when i restarted the EWS warning came on and the engine management warning also.
I carried on riding stopped a couple of times but could not get rid. Stopped again and moved the radio to tank bag (for another reason) and when i restarted again the bike was alarm clear.
I understand that the EWS is frequency orientated so could the radio be causing probs?? Later on in the day i put it back under the seat (on a different channel) and all has been ok so far.
Anyone else had anything similar or could it be another problem. A trip to poland in the near future has promted me to ask as i would rather sort it now and not later

I had a spurious yellow warning light with the EWS symbol a couple of weeks ago. It lasted 10 minutes and then went away. No apparent cause.

The dealer said, when I phoned them, it could just be a tempermental sensor. They've got the bike now for a service anyway so we'll see if anything was really wrong.

Bezzer,

Have you tried putting the radio back on the original channel to see if the EWS warning returns????

Could just be co-incidence??

Just a thought.

Its possible that the radio would affect it. I've worked round sensitive electronics before with handheld radios. Just opening an equipment cabinet and speaking on your radio can send things haywire.

Stashing the radio under the seat near the ECU's could have a similar effect. I would have thought that BMW would have considered this in their design process though.

I too have suffered an intermittant EWS error, which was rectified by 're-booting' my bike i.e. turning the bloody thing off and on.

Perhaps you blipped the throttle during POST? I have had this cause a yellow fault, EWS I beleive, and to clear I had to due the throttle reset as per manual after battery change (fully open and close twice).

HTHs
