Rattling engine and seizing exhaust flap.

You never know whats going on under those cam covers... it could be internaly dissolving away ;)

Bizarre init, by the way they are priced you’d think the parts were made from a mixture of pure unobtanium and essence of unicorn yet sometimes I get the feeling they are made from blu-tack.

And then they consume themselves!

Has the factory closed for the season change over yet?
I wonder if there will be a slight retooling for some parts for next years run of bikes.

I understand people being pissed off at the broken or corroded parts - I’ve had my share and yet I currently keep feeding the BMW model churn. The GSA for me is such a good bike and a great work horse. I use it to commute , carry everything I need and it does it effortlessly.

On the flip side I’m always slightly amazed that any bike manufacturers can come up with new engines and bikes as the relative number of units sold is so low and it has to fund all of the R&D including the ideas that went no where.

Yes but all BMW do is tinker with original Bilge pump of the 1930s... :D

Seriously it will be the suppliers of components that do a lot (not all) of R&D like the ESA shocks, ECU, ABS & TFT displays.

update on the 2014 GSA

Guys, yes I know I`m going to possibly pull down the wrath of the gods on me, go to hell and suffer the breath of a thousand camel bums (old arabic curse) but I`ve changed the grade of oil on my 2014 R1200GSA and it`s quitened down!

Yeah, I know I`m not `fixing` the problem etc etc but sometimes I just wanna ride the damn thing and not get bogged down with (possible) endless days off the bike so I changed the spec`d 5w/40 for 10w/50 (not 20w/50 mind you :rob) and the chatter from the RH cylinder is quiter!

Yeah, I know all I`ve done is mask it but hey it works for me :bounce1

Just a word of caution - the bike has done 25k miles so IMHO it`s now run in enough to cope with a thicker oil!

I do hope this doesn`t start an oil thread - the point is that if the rattle is anoying you try thicker oil! It works and the world won`t end!

As for the 1250, that is still awaiting warranty replair which I think will necessitate the replacement of the cams and/or the secondary shaft but we shall see!

so long as your not starting it at -40 deg is will work fine... and better than sawdust ;)

Can you please tell the make of oil, and what was the colour please....:D

Well as long as its nots MOLY based, otherwise according to the Manual page 165 the bike will consume itself from the inside..............:D

I think you mock young Sir... I wish you luck, but time will tell ;)

10w 40 synth would do the thing just as well. We dont get the temperatures here to justify the one size fits all 5w 50 that the fatherland recommends. Just my rantings.

It all depends on which oil company is paying them the most this year to recommend their oils. Like every manufacturer ,inc cars, its who pays the most.
You mean it is not gospel, but all down to the dreaded consumerism rearing its ugly head via the mothership.

A certain local dealership didn't even know what the sae/jaso ratings meant.

Come on chaps, and chapettes how can you flog stuff when you know less than sfa.
