Rattling engine and seizing exhaust flap.

A certain local dealership didn't even know what the sae/jaso ratings meant.

Come on chaps, and chapettes how can you flog stuff when you know less than sfa.

Anything with an SAE of SJ or higher would be fine.

Personally a good mineral oil, rather than semi or fully synthetic for a oil/hexhead; for an lc/s1000/K12_13_16 fully synthetic only.

It is strange how your engine would self flagellate if you used anything other than 5W40 and it would invalidate your warranty too. Still that's progress for you.

I've used Valvoline VR1 Racing 20w-50 mineral for years in my 'other' motors... splended stuff with the zink etc it contains.. stops any hint of flagelation and cold welding.... don't like flagelation at all :whip

You stick to 5w-40 and be rattle free.............:D
 
Ha :) my reputation precedes me!

Anyhoo, less of my jibber jabbering, the 1200 now seems better (although not cured) so if that helps anyone else then woohoo (staying mindful that it’s possibly best in a loose engine). As for the 1250, sadly that doesn’t even go in until the 19th and I’ll report back accordingly (but my money is on either the cams or that secondary shaft eating themselves). I do hope the bike is fixed that week as I’ve got the annual V Strom meet the following weekend of which I’m a proud honorary member! (And I like to stand in the field, watching the ‘stroms bob across to their camping site whilst saying “it’s not often you see them flat out eh”). Tickles me every year, that.

And I do get some stick about BMW reliability but they are a good bunch, it’s a two way thing and, after all, they sometimes have a point!

Well it seems ok pal, it`s got the JASO rating that the lads were on about but mine hasn`t a quickshifter (on the 1200GSA).
