Been up Donard twice but the rest of the Mournes are unknown to me - I'll have to take a trip up one of these days.

The iced up lake is Loch Coimín Piast, 'lake of the little hollow of serpents'. Like many another Irish mountain lake, there was probably a story of a water-monster associated with it.
In December 1943 an American Dakota aircraft crashed into the slopes of Cnoc na Péiste (the 4th highest peak in Ireland) just above the lake.
Pieces of the aircraft are still visible on the ridge and in the lake.
A plaque at Cronin's Yard commemorates the 5 victims.

similar here...we have lough Shannagh ...lake of the foxes an everything from American WW2 bombers to sml aircraft crashsites...13 in total i think?...and the Cooley Mtns are only a few miles away in Louth and the beautiful Cooley peninsula
