Service cost

Could someone please look at my bill?

Does it appear as if I've been over charged?

6000mile service / 12 month inspection

I would never pay that sort of dosh for a service. As has already been said before,, If its two years old and out of warranty whats the point of the dealer stamp? You probably wont get anymore for it when the time comes to sell/part ex'.

I would suggest an independant BMW boxer service guy/gal or get a Haynes manual and have a go yourself (I do) thats if you are handy with a set of spanners. You will save big cash.

The only probable downside might be, if you have a goodwill claim in the future, BMW may not honour the claim unless youve got the service book dealer stamped. (Anyone got a dealer stamp??) I dunno.

Think you gotta follow your gut feeling on this one.

Last weekend I bought a 1200GS (2004) - so the whole problem with service charges will be important to me. I am also in Grantham and I would very much like to know if you can recommend me a reliable independant garage?
Thanks!

My God.

I asked in another thread what the servicing costs were and now I have my answer!

They are quite simply ridiculous bills. We are talking about a motorcycle here (of sorts). In all my life of riding bikes I have never ever paid a bill anywhere like that. In fact, my car, a lowly 10 year old vauxhall has never had a bill north of £250 at its service time.

From an outsider, bmw are plainly ripping a lot of people off. £55-60 p/h labour is not justified.

Vote with your feet !

My local Suzuki dealer charges £86 per hour :oonyack

Woh - that bill is a bit salty isn't it! When I had mine done at that mileage I don't think I had an ABS bleed.
Might be worth dropping some polite comms to the dealer and ask what they think and whether it is reasonable or not - doesn't look right at all. You never know they might hold thier hands up and give you a better deal on the next service.
Just a thought.

They gave me £30 back but even at £415 that still seems excessive for a motorbike.

Just been given £30 odd back because they overcharged on the brake bleeding time by 25mins. They were also not happy that i made this post and showed my bill online.

It makes you wonder had i not put my bill on the internet there is no way i would get money back.

So a note to all if you think something isn't right get on here and the right people will see it. Bottom line is we are all paying far to much for a stamp on the service book

Good to hear they responded but £30 isn't exactly what you would call a 'sorry...and we really value you Mr Customer' statement!

Their reaction to you putting your bill online is a real tell-tale to the fact they know they were/are swinging the lead. Some dealers need a bloody good shake. Me thinks the BMW franchise people need to do a bit of mystery shopping to see how dealers are looking after customers and reinforcing the BMW brand values.

Funny thing is, the invoince doesn't show an oil filter, I've had a look underneath and can't decide whether it's new or they've cleaned the old one up. :nenau
Just to clear matters up ... here's your old one!...

Clearly the BMW dealership is monitoring this forum so perhaps they can explain what the problem is showing the invoice. If you are doing a good job and charging the correct fee there should be no mystery or embarrassment :rob

Perhaps we should all do the same so we can compare to see if there is like for like service. No law against it !

Definately - if you're doing it right, there shouldn't be any problems!?

Im getting more and more disillusioned with my purchase of a GSA. Looking through this site there seems to be regular faults, no parity on servicing costs etc. I get told one price by a dealer only to find out its a lot more when it comes to it and it needs to be done to keep the warranty up. I chose the BMW over the KTM for supposed cheaper servicing as bodywork does need removing to get to the engine but it seems the servicing cost is much the same :(

Anybody wanna buy a 57 plate GSA?

Got mine booked into Glasgow in two weeks for it's first service since the new Motor was installed, can't wait...I'll be able to open 'er up at last after that...:D

I'm sure it'll be just fine there..:thumb2

At least Dick Terpin had the decency to wear a mask
couldn't believe how much to change four spark plugs

...............then stop reading forums!
Most folk only come here for a moan and groan - all the others are out there too busy enjoying themselves! As for cheaper servicng costs due to less bodywork, the KTM only has side tanks that take only a couple of minutes to remove, also the BMW has longer service intervals.

As for servicing costs - come on folks..........what do you expect? These companies are in business to offer us a service and make money. We expect - they deliver. If you are unhappy with service then vote with your feet and a 'poor' dealer will either change or fade away.

Remember there is always two sides to every story

It is a two way street of course - we should treat them with respect and expect the same in return.

Who are they? love to ring them.

It's no different to what you will find in the car world. When I was looking around for a replacement car recently, one I looked at was the Audi A3. The cost of the first variable mileage service on that varied between £210 right up to £350 depending on which dealer you spoke to. Dealers will always set their own labour rates and it is something which the importer/manufaturer will have no say in. The only constants should be the time allowed for the service and the cost of the OEM parts. Oils and other consumables will also vary in price from one dealer to the next.

My 06 GS12 is my first BMW.It was supplied new by Pidcock Motorcycles,Long Eaton. They have Serviced it twice, done the 17" Wheel/Supermoto conversion, answered queries and done everything i have asked. They have treated me fairly and charged me their rates. If an invoice has items on it,i trust they have been needed and fitted accordingly. They may be cheaper or dearer than other Dealers BUT,i am happy with them and THAT is surely the deciding factor.Build a relationship and a trust with a Dealer and maybe you will be happier.
