Sheared bolts

I took my 2017 GS Rallye into my local BMW dealer for them to do the valve/cam settings, however, they sheered off all four bolts that hold the covers on the heads, I was only informed of this after they did the deed, they said they couldn’t drill & re-tap them, but offered to fit new valve covers for the sum of £2,300. I was rather pissed off about it, as I had previously bought two bikes from them. They handed me back the covers, and all the other bits after I refused to pay them the quoted price. Has anyone in this forum had this problem? And if so how did you resolve it? Can the valve covers be removed, drilled & re-tapped by an engineering company.
Sorry if my terminology is a bit off!
Regards

Wow.
That's their problem to fix. They are taking the piss and need to return it to you in the condition it arrived in and at their cost.

If it's Group 1 in Brighton, I wouldn't be surprised. I received shocking after sales from them. I wouldn't use them again.

If you are able to, check if the snapped bolts can be removed by hand. I had one snap on mine (again, a dealer) but i was able to remove it by hand and had no issues. They resolved everything.

It's amazing how ham-fisted some mechanics are. These bolts are only 10nm!

I would raise this to BMW HQ Customer Services, and raise a rather large complaint!

Teapot 1 (Bruce Smart) though is well chuffed with them.

Yeee hah!!!

I would consider getting a Lawyer to write them a letter stating they need to rectify their fuck up and compensate you for any time you are inconvenienced or expenses you incur as a result (eg a loan/hire vehicle in lieu etc).

They have liability insurance, let that pay the cost of repair.

Yeh, sadly these are all below the top of the bolt hole…

The stud snaps at the casing, as the spacer/shape butts against the cylinder head. They're not long enough to snap due to being too tight in the threads.

The tail ends may still be loose, of you're able to get a pick/screwdriver in there to turn them.

Why are people suggesting he does it himself? It's the shops fuck up and their liability.
If he has a go they'll refuse liability.

He should refuse to collect it until they repair it.

You pay a premium at a BMW dealer for their brand trained mechanics

In any case, they are professionals who have fucked up, it’s their job to fix it, I’d be contacting BMW customer service

I think the appropriate contact details have been provided on this forum in the past

I'd not trust the same place who broke it, and then want to charge me to fix it to touch it anymore.........

You could always collect it and take it somewhere else to fix it and bill the offender. Good luck with that.
Best to leave it where it is until they fix it at their cost.

I Don't understand how new valve covers fixes the problem, or is just me?
