My side stand seems to have rather a lot of play in it, but guess after 80 odd thousand miles that may be normal ?
The cut out switch seems to just "sit" on top of the pivot and can just be lifted off. Is this normal ?
I can't see a way of securing it on diagrams I've looked at, so a little confused ....

The bush can be replaced and the switch is held in position with a small circlip iirc

I'm sure that some movement is perfectly normal in the side stand by design.

Thanks Stu. No circlip on top of mine so looks like it's popped off somewhere. Can't even see a groove the clip would fit in, but it is a bit grubby down there !!

Here you go. Just taken this pic

Yes.

I have just overhauled mine due to excessive play. Despite replacing the bush and the pin. There was still significant play due to wear between the side stand and the mounting. I checked the amount of play with feeler guage and it worked out at 0.3mm either side of the side stand mount. So I installed some 0.1mm shim washers that I purchased on eBay, after bolting it all up, I now have minimal play.

Beware,

Although mine has done a lot more mileage, my side stand was getting worse and worse.

Thought I had sorted it by improving the bush, the next thing that happen was the actual bracket cracked!!!

It cracked as I was walking away, manage to grab it before it went all the way to the floor.

Not cracked on a Weld but right along the middle

Worth a look.

I'll check it out John, thanks :thumb2

On my first '02 non-ABS Rockster, the centre stand folded up through internal corrosion, thankfully whilst I was using the old Triumph advertising slogan tip of simply putting all my weight on the lever, ( "...even a 12-yr-old can do it !" ) so the bike didn't fall over as usually happens when the centre-stand snaps off.
Not only that, but about a month later, at only 33K miles on the clock, the side-stand bracket on the frame cracked and the bike almost hit the deck.

I remember holidaying in Austria in a Morris Minor drop-head some decades ago, and took it in for a service to the British Leyland main dealer in Vienna. This was in the days of the Common Market, when city streets there were populated by Austin, Vauxhall and Rover British-imported cars, as well as the usual German models.

There was a special oil-spray bay outside the vast main workshop, with a fat lady in rubber boots and an all-enveloping rubber cape. All she did all day long was soak the underside of each vehicle with thick oil after it had been serviced - avoiding the brake drums of course. She said it stopped the rust caused by Austrian salt-plus-ice winter road use.
Maybe food for thought.
