SOS

Arse. Just realised.
Save it all from here. I'm coming to Guernsey in early July. Ill PM you the dates. Meet up for a coffee ?

Arse.
My weird strange view on life is based on this.
Speak to people on the Intraweb the same as you would if you were standing next to them in the pub. I read your posts on here, along with a few others that make me so wish I was standing next to you in the pub:thumb Your persona would be so difference. Not the obnoxious arse you are here.
If you research the emergency network signal. It is everywhere. Youd be very unlucky not to be within it.
But again. Its shite, :thumb

I did research it

It’s not everywhere,as plainly explained above .
The SOS function doesn’t work at all here, even though we have a phone signal.

Yes, there are areas where it is absent. But as I said, You'd be unlucky to be in one of those areas. And just because there are some areas not covered. It doesnt make it rubbish ?
Well, actually it is rubbish. Ill turn it off. because there are blind areas. :blast
In fact, Im going to throw my mobile phone away as that's useless too, because I've heard there are blind areas with that too.
I PM'd you. Be good to meet up for a coffee in early July:thumb

Depends where you ride.
But I’d be quite likely to be in one of those areas.
I’m in one now !
And the next big trip I’m doing, I probably won’t have a phone signal for at least 30% of the time, so an SOS button would have limited value.
Coffee would be good but you’ll have to come to Singapore in early July.

Because I’ve ridden my brothers 2021 1250GS Rallye and there’s a great big warning light telling you the SOS isn’t working.

Same in Jersey too apparently.

In the first year of my SOS I did have a warning come up a couple of times in remote areas. For the last three years I've not had that warning at all. And I was on Jersey last July and it was fine there too.
So, You know you're in a non emergency area because ...... You've ridden your brothers GS:blast Absolute quality arse. You are what you claim. Super human:augie
Defo scrap the SOS & my mobile now ......
:jes

Is it just me ? Or can you, or anybody else see how absurd and silly you are making yourself look ?
This is a wind up , isn't it ! And I fell for it.
Look forward to the coffee. Try and arrange it for when Richard is available too.

Unlike some on here, as stated above in my post, Many riders do ride to distant, barren places,

It’s just you. It usually is.
BMW state quite clearly that you need mobile phone reception for the SOS facility to work, yet you advocate it as an aid for those riding off to remote barren lands.
Just genius !!
And ,not that it makes fuck all difference , but it doesn’t work over here.
I have a number of mates with newish GSs and all have the same issue,my bro included, and I’ve seen the warning on the dash.I’d heard Jersey was the same. But maybe not.
But it’s irrelevant over here.

Coffee would be great…with Richard.
Have a lovely weekend.Don’t go too remote though :-)

Remember, a SIM Card doesn't pick up the signal. The antenna inside your phone does it. A SIM Card only has your phone number and carrier info. Emergency calls only means that your network is unavailable, but there are still other available mobile operators which allow the call to go through. Mostly, emergency calls don't require your number and your mobile operator to go through.
It is usually me that Takes on absurd claims through posts on here, and always the same people. Which I will continue.

Coffee. Cant wait.:thumb

I can't see what the argument is about.

It's acknowledged that SOS doesn't work out of range of a mobile signal but neither will your phone.

If you're in the middle of the Gobi desert and you come off by yourself then you're fucked either way.

But if you come off at 3am on a minor road in most of the UK and probably Europe and you're unconscious or injured it should work.

If you want that reassurance then fine, if not that's fine too.

I was grateful for mine when I got taken out by a hit & run in rural Hampshire. I was on my back next to the bike and they were in contact straight away. They did the lot, police, ambulance and even recovery. They knew exactly where I was.
Good to know it’s there (notwithstanding the signal issue).

Since I got rid of the GSA I've bought a Garmin Montana 700i with the InReach system. It has the SOS button for such emergencies. The only negative aspect is that it has to be manually pressed and it is fixed to the bike whereas I could be metres from it and unable to move. However, there are similar Garmin products with the InReach technology which you can wear on your person. My point is that the technology is out there, it is relatively cheap to purchase and can save your life. The benefit of the InReach system though is that it relies on a satalite connection (I think) rather than a mobile phone connection. Either way, anything that can give you a chance of being located and quickly is a plus from me.
