Starcom/ Autocom
I had an old Autocom system which was on my1100, then transfered it to my 1150, I had it 5 or so years and it was superb then I tried to fit it to my 1200. It was awful, the 5 pin leads were knackered, due to my wifes inability to disconnect with destroying the plugs. Fitted to the 1200 was a disaster due to age/ connections so I decided to replace (the Autocom had paid for itself) with a Starcom as I live in the town where its made. Unfortunately despite excellent service and 2 different units it didn't work without awful distortion on sound; we couldn't use it without an out of tune delayed chipmunk speech. Starcom were extremely helpful but couldn't sort it to my (or the wifes)satisfaction and gave me a full refund. I felt an absolute heel and that it was my fault though they assured my I'd fitted it perfectly.
I've heard people dismiss Autocom and on price Starcom beats them but in desperation I rang them and was astonished to hear theyd service and up grade my old system to the pro7 for £80 if I got it to them. A day later in Warwick after 50 mins all was done. sady I have to say that whereas Starcom was poor the revitalised Autocom was just right. For some reason Star... didn't like my bike but the revitalised Autocom was perfect. The downside is the new plugs are even tighter/worse so I have had to insist on a connect/disconnect system that removes the female elemnet absolutely. Apart from that in the Autocom / Starcom comparison I have to say A wins for me but that both companies gave great attention and excellent service. I'd like to combine the best features of each system; plugs on Starcom are better for one but overall its sound taht counts!
