Thanks Roger, obviously I did !
I was trying to learn what changes actually occur by removing the plug. I read your posts with interest but I still struggled to get my head around what was actually happening. (Other than I assume some changes in ignition timing and possibly fuelling)
I was just trying to educate myself and find out if my "seat of pants" feelings made any sense.

What is happening is that each plug selects a different set of about 80 data tables. The tables have different values for fuel vs rpm/TPS, ignition advance vs rpm/tps, cold start enrichment vs rpm/TPS and so on. BMW designed and tested each table for the specifics of the engine, intake and exhaust.

I read from one of your posts a long way back that an R1150GS with no plug in was set for US/ECE Regular fuel. A yellow plug was for the same bike but using 91 Ron fuel.
Please forgive my ignorance but ECE ?
Also, as I'm in the UK and the minimum Octane rating I would be using would be 95, does this mean that No plug fitted is an acceptable configuration ?
