tell me about your 1190

It wasn't too hot here today, but the engine still gives off plenty of heat. However, roasted thighs are off the menu it seems :aidan The difference is very noticeable and because they are (real) carbon fibre, they are quite cool to the touch too. I'm more than pleased. :D

Ok Davy thanks , did 11500 last year on my 1190 never really bothered me to much ,but now you've mentioned it it might be wurth thinking about.
I'm off touring later this week round Germany on my new r model I'll decide when I return ,but thanks for your input.

Is the comfort seat better than the stock item that I'm finding a literal pain in the arse?

I had the heated comfort seat it is better but not massively ,wouldn't buy it again.
The R seat so far seams good you sit against the back raised bit which makes it a little back rest but I've not done any big miles yet to fully test it watch this space.

I seem to have a skinny arse (only bit on me that IS skinny !!), for example....my 12GS seat was only good for approx 50 miles before I started to fidget around. I bought a Sargent seat which was a revelation and without doubt THE best mod I did to that bike.

On the 1190, I found the stock seat only good for 80/100 miles. So when I placed my order, I took a punt on the comfort seat as Sargent wasn't an option. I really don't need the heated option, so it was just in the faint hope of it being more comfortable than the stocker that I splurged out. So, is it better ? Well, yes, it is better/more comfortable. Is it as good as a Sargent ? No, it isn't.

Hi Cookie, when I first road tested the R I found it a little firm and just short of my ideal length to the foot pegs the dealer swapped a comfort seat for me to try and it was perfect, I have since done two six hour rides in comfort, but I am 6ft. 4".

i couldn't get on with the standard GSA seat and got a sargent, that was perfect, but latterly i noticed i was beginning to squirm earlier.

i can do about 50 miles on the 1190 S seat before i get pain at buttock seat/contact patch. i don't really want to use an airhawk, tried one once and it didn't seem do anything but disconnect me from the bike. maybe i'll just have to take a punt on the comfort seat.

I'm not especially having a dig at KTM as several manufacturers do the same, but, why don't they fit 'comfort' seats as standard? Why pay them extra to have a seat that works?

i quite agree. bmw are serial offenders in this matter. i think the only bmw i have owned that was in anyway comfy was my R100GS PD. all the others have been terrible.

This is the reason that companies like Sargent, Corbin and people like Tony Archer have got good businesses going on. Manufacturers seem to pay little notice to the seats that go on their machines. Blame must also go to the many test riders, unless they have buns of steel or are ignored about seat matters.

Well folks just had quite an epic adventure to Catalan gp with some pals with lots of ups and downs , managed a day one run from home to La Rochelle on day one , the air hawk paid for itself that day
Hadn't got any panniers so loaded up for 8 days camping and f1's , the stand isn't so nice with the weight on :(
Still 700 plus miles and the bike ran sweet , regularly saw 230 miles to a tank.
Fitted some pr4's which also made the bike extra special in the Pyrenees .
It was red hot in Barcelona and the bike lost its mind as it wouldn't switch off when I turned the key and took the key out , it cleared itself the next day though , the hot seat isa little disappointing in 35 degrees :( and in my opinion the mdi foam will break down in time so I will keep an eye on it
Got pig screen which was great also , made a big difference
My pal lost his Ducati ms after hitting a deer in France , so I ended up bringing him back
He's a big lad and after dumping my luggage with his bike , the ktm performed great with him on
Great trip on a great bike besides the small issues
2500 miles in 5 days on great roads and I could go again

Some great roads where you have just been sounds like you had a great time but your mate was very lucky to survive a deer strike  the perfect bike with the grin factor that just won't go away :D

Yeah he was really lucky
He was distraught when we finally found the Ducati buried in a corn field 50 ft from the road , totally destroyed :(
The fact it didn't hit him was amazing
Bluetooth headsets are great till you hear some one take a tumble , when the dust settled and I heard him groan "FFS" I was genuinely relieved :)
We ended up sticking him in a van for the UK leg , hence the pic of me on the A1 ;)

Cookie, I feel your pain, I'm now at 30,000miles with my GSA 12, bought new Sept 11, I have had loads of fun with it, but there's always a niggle in the back of mind about its reliablity, and should I stop paying for the extended warranty i took out after two years?

I had within the first 2500miles a new fuel pump, left me stranded on the hard shoulder, heated grips, complete exhaust, since then I've had under warranty, the magnesium head covers final drive and both wheels replaced due to corrosion.

This isn't what bothers me, its the service intervals of mine, 6000 miles compared to a KTM which is I think about 8500miles?, that's a big difference to me as I'm now doing 15,000+ a year .

It would be interesting to know what the cost of servicing is guys? and how you've found the after care from buying new in the Uk?

Good luck with whaat ever you buy, its normally the best thing to own until you sell and then the everyone tells the truth! hahah :blagblah:blast

KTM service interval is 9000 miles or yearly, whichever comes sooner.

Did 15k on my 2011 GSA with no issues at all. I do sometimes wonder why I sold it, but I don't regret buying the KTM. It may not be as comfy, but for pure riding fun it's in a different league.

I've done just over 3100 miles this past two weeks so far. Average fuel consumption is 50 mpg. I've also been sitting cruising at 85/95 mph for 200 mile stretches (which is usually when the fuel warning flashes up) and yes, I probably get a little more buffeting than I did on my GS. As the days have gone on, my arse must be hardening up as I can go for longer before the shuffling starts. The Continental tyres have been fantastic, especially in the wet. Overall, really well pleased.

Davy, sorry but I cant't find the original comments on the heat deflecting panels you bought but how are you finding them? Have they made a worthwhile improvement?

And on a much more important note; Amanda didn't get on with the 1190 ADV so I've been chipping away over the last couple of months and she's off on the back of an 'R' this weekend. It's a long shot as by rights it should be slightly less comfy than the ADV but I thought it worth a try, you never know and I've nothing to loose..........

If Amanda gets on with it I have 'permission' to replace the GS with one so PLEASE can everybody send lots of positive 'go Amanda, go' vibes to north Wales on late Friday afternoon, thank you :beerjug:
