A few observations from me. I almost bought a KTM 950 way back in 2005. I was lucky enough to have a good friend who took the plunge with a 950 S Adv and lent it to me for a couple of days to see how I got on with it. Briefly, it was great fun, but I just didn't gel with it and the worst points were the buffeting and the wooden seat. So I went and bought my 12GS instead, and very good it was too, despite recalls and gearbox seals going south after 12k miles, stupid servo brakes that played up and other annoying little things that made me wonder why I left the Japanese fold.
I again tried the KTM 990 Adv, but felt it hadn't been improved over the 950 and the fuelling or throttle wasn't terribly good.
Another few bikes passed through my buttocks before last year when I decided to treat myself to an expensive retirement pressie and so the test rides began. I tried everything in the Adv category bar the Kawasaki Versys 1000 as I have gone off IL4's. But the one that blew me away was the 1190 Adv. And after 7k miles, I still can't get over how good it is. Everything from being pretty damn comfortable to the good fuel returns and of course, the performance. I also think that it is a good looking machine, although I didn't like it when I saw the prototype pictures, so I guess the looks have really grown on me. Yes, I have had a couple of recalls, but compared to some toilet owners, these are pretty minor. The finish has pleased and all in all, I made the right choice. I have a good dealer too, but I don't get to see much of him in reality. As far as this bike or that bike is quicker etc, well, I've had fun with a few toilet jockeys and it was very obvious, they weren't Schtum.

The only thing I can honestly say that is 'bad' about the 1190 is that with panniers fitted, it starts to break into a weave above 105 mph (on the Autobahn's, your Honour).
So to sum up, I love it.
