Excellent write up Ronno, enjoyed that. As others have mentioned, some good places to visit in the future :thumb2

Great write up and pictures!

Sometimes it pays to go the road less travelled. The Pfalz is beautiful and the Elsass has some great roads with little traffic. Hotels and restaurants are quite reasonable as well. Our 'group' (last year 17 bikers!) stays often around Pirmasens and drive into the Pfalz on the Weinstrasse during the day &/or the Elsass. The key is 'LESS TRAFFIC' ! You hit almost all the right towns in the Pfalz (also see Rhodt in the spring...cherry/apple blossoms all through the Weinstrasse).

Note - NOW for the next few weeks you can find "Weinfestivals" in most of the small towns on the Weinstrasse. Most turn into an amazing party in an old medieval town.

In the Pfalzerwald there are some AMAZING roads, but as Ronno says, many are closed on the weekends due to overzealous riders...
admittedly necessary as during my rides in this area I often see nuts on BMW K's and supersports going by at 160-200 km/h (this through dense woods!).

It's always the same...highways are boring. German autobahn is no different! It's the backroads that give you the adventure!

Some stunning pics there Ronno. Not a bad narrative to go with it either. :D
Some of the pictures took me back to our trip last year. :thumb2

Thanks to everyone who's taken the time to have a look at my report and also for the positive comments :thumb2

Hud tae stop half way and go fur a pish reading aw that:clap
.

Can you imagine how many times I'd to stop for a pish when I was writing the fecker?

A cracking report there Ronno that evokes fond memories of the Weinstrasse and St Martin in particular. :clap:clap

Well spotted :D :thumb2

The Totenkopfstrasse begins just a short distance up the hill from where we had our lunch last year. It's a real pity that we didn't have time to ride it then but the sound of the Jäger beckoned  :D. The second set of "Zoll/Douane" photos are the wee road that we took into France :beerjug:

I didn't see the window sill, Tony but I'm wondering if it was in the same room as the big marble fireplace that Mousilini gave to Hitler for his birthday? You sound as if you were as taken in by the whole experience as I was myself. We were really lucky with the weather. According to someone I spoke to (the guy from Linlithgow in fact), the day we went up was the first day with no mist for about 2 weeeks.

Well worth going to, Dougie. You must have just been "out" with your visiting date when you were there. The trips go every day from May to October.

Nice report there Ronno, with some lovely pictures. My in-laws are in the area of Alsace that you went to so some of the villages looked familiar, as did the Maginot Line bunker which I took my mother to see last week. I first went there a couple of years ago when I was on the 650. You've given me some ideas for places to visit on the German side when I'm next over there.

Wunderschöne Bilder, Ronno, und ein toller Reisebericht - vielen Dank! :clap

The Palatine Forest (Pfälzer Wald) is one of my favourite regions in Germany; I used to stay in Edenkoben a few times and also took Possu to Annweiler three years ago. Jockgrim doesn't look bad either - will make sure it's on my route the next time.

And the Alsace and the Vosges are a fantastic area, too. You could spend a whole week there and hardly ever ride the same road twice.

Funny that you stopped in Bacharach on your way back - did you know this village before? It's almost too picturesque to be true but definitely worth the visit. I spent some memorable evenings at the 'Grüner Baum' tasting my way through the excellent local wines... :mmmm

Thank you for taking us on the journey and for bringing back fond memories.

:101

Very good ronnie, you seem to have balanced, to see plenty but spent plenty of time seeing it, if that makes sense? great pics and report.

Good God I`ve gotta stop reading brilliant trip reports like this:D
The list of places, really brilliant places I`ve still to get to is HUGE!
Thanks for the great write up and pics. My good lady and I have just `discovered` Germany after loads of trips to France/Italy. We love it. Actually going to the area around Trier for a long weekend in a couple of weeks:JB
Been wanting to go to Eagle`s Nest for ages :ronno
