Tyre question

I've had a set of Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR's on my 2010 GSA - I get around 6000 miles to the rear & 12000 to the front - really liked them. Currently on Karoo Street - which I like as well, but prefer the STR's - only reason I didn't get a 2nd set was they were taking too long to arrive at my local fitter & he had a set of Streets in store.
Karoo Street probably a carbon copy (pardon the pun) of the STR's.....bar the different looking thread pattern.

Think it’s about time to change the rubber on my 1200. Currently running Anakee adventures which have been good for both touring, scratching and doing some light trail work. As I do abit of everything and do tend to ride it like I stole it on occasions I’m just wondering if anyone has found something better than what I’m currently running.
They haven't. There is no tyre any better than the others
There are no bad tyres. There are only those you trust.
Just buy those you trust and ignore all the advice you receive on this question.
Most people on this forum have no clue about tyre difference. No one has tried all of those available.

Well that's that settled then!

Yep. It's not hard to choose some tyres
I like trying different models/brands of tyres on the one bike.

I definitely think there are worse tyres than others.
Each of us like different things in a tyre......so a certain type of tyre might feel "bad" to one particular rider but feel like the best tyre in the world to another.

You have obviously never had two bikes fitted with Dunlop Meridians , one pair on a r1200gsa were binned and replaced at less than 250 miles ( Continental TA3's ) and the pair on my f800gsa replaced and thrown in the bin at 750 miles (Avons were fitted instead ). Once removed both bikes went back to their normal sweet handling selves ,Dunlop seem to have a disproportionate amount of worldwide safety recalls.
Dunlop gave me a free par of Mutants (to replace the Meridians on the 1200 ) I have them on my current r1250gsa and they are an okay tyre in the wet ( better than they are in the dry)

Didn't I say that?

Perfect example....

I loved the Meridian.....had a couple of sets on my VFR1200X Crosstourer.

Hexhead came with Karoo 2 fitted

God awful tyres, noisy and bloody lethal in the wet

The new kid on the block then was the Avon trailrider, a 80/20, dual tyre.

Game changer,
quieter,, and sticky as fuck, longevity wasn't the best, say 6k for the pair

Must have been good, as come replacement time you couldn't get them for love nor money.

So the next recommendation was the Metzler Tourance

Whilst they are a very very good tyre, they have one fault,

They take longer than the trial riders to bed in

Avons 200 miles done

Metzeler 300 miles, ( although the wet roads we had at that time didn't help)

I've had Trailer riders on the Hex head & LC

Tourances on the Hex head, LC & Twincam

When I come to replace them this year it will be either of those
