I noticed that the tyre thread in "Font of all knowledge" has not been updated for a while, so a question for you all.

Been on Tourances for a while now, but would like to go back to a full road tyre for the summer, have had Bridgestone 020's before but believe these may be on the way out and to be replaced, so the question is...

What is the tyre of choice for those running sports tyres these days?
Or are we still restricted on size issues? :thumb

There is plenty of choice now with road rubber available from all the big companies in GS sizes. Continental do the Road Attack, Avon do the Azaro/Storm combination, Michelin have an offering (can't remember which one, I think it's the Pilot Road) and Metzeler do the Z6's. Bridgestone have just introduced the BT021's to replace the 020, but I'm not sure if you can get them in GS sizes yet.

Replaced Metzlers with Avon Azaro/Storm combination 2 weeks ago, £210 inc vat and fitting, just back from 1 week touring in france, 2000+ miles, really very happy, much smoother and more feel as you might expect compared to Metzlers which is a duel purpose but great tyre in its own right, compared to the avons which is purely a road tyre, anyway, had a good mixture of road types, straights for miles on end and tight bends, wet and dry conditions so thumbs up from me.

Just replaced my 020s for the avons and they feel pretty much the same.

Both stunning tyres wet or dry, have had three sets of 020 and one set of pilot roads and this new set of avons in the last year and I like the avons and the 020s the best.

Although I lost the front end on the avons on my favourite roundabout :blast my fault pushing to hard on nearly new tyres.

The new 021s dont have a fittment for the GS yet but it shouldnt be long.

Hope This Helps Matt:thumb2

What were the Pilot roads like? i can get them delivered from Germany for £134 and fitting isn't an issue, so seems a lot cheaper than the Avons

Not bad they lasted well, got 9k out of them, made the steering slower than the 020s but the wet grip felt better.

Hope This Helps matt:thumb

Just fitted Conti Road Attacks (£164 fitted inc balance). Only ridden a couple of hundred miles last weekend but first impressions very favourable. Excellent in the wet too, bit worried about that looking at the tread pattern but no worries at all.:)
