Hi all, apologies that I'm not a big time poster here, but more of a lurker. Im sure some of you may be able to advise me.

Ive had 5 BMW's over the last 7 years or so and the workmanship is getting worse. Im currently on the R1200GS TE which I bought from brand new. On delivery day (Dec 13') they didn't want to release the bike to me as (despite telling me 4 days earlier that it was ready) they insisted that the rear shock had too much play, I got my bike a week later with a free BMW Nav V as an apology and the same shock that was originally fitted after BMW HQ had said that it was ok and quite normal. 500 miles in and it had a new final drive as the powder coat was bubbling up, 800 miles from new it had new rear brake pads as they rear disc wasn't finished properly and wearing the pads at an alarming rate.

And now, at under 5000 miles and roughly 16 months old the powder coating on the engine cases are bubbling up, I've lodged a warranty claim but that was 3 weeks ago and I'm getting fked around by my dealer dragging their feet. Oh… and on top of that, the front brake reservoir is leaking and the satnav control wheel on the left handlebar has stopped working. It hasn't been ridden all winter (hanging my head in shame) mainly due to work etc and has been kept dry. Oh.. and the screen pins aswell….. the list goes on!

Im rapidly losing interest in the bike and BMW but more so my dealer unfortunately, having always been treat well by them in the past they don't seem to care anymore. Any advice?

If I were you I'd be asking my dealer to get me out of the bike but only you can make that decision

Out of interest, my front brake master cylinder and reservoir was found to be leaking (warranty), screen mounts cracking (warranty) and the left control module was replaced as a recall. Coopers of Sunderland - No issues or qibbles. Who's your dealer?

I won't mention the dealer just yet as they promise it will be sorted and that I don't need to lose faith in the bike. BMW have offered to respray the engine case, but more pictures have been sent to them showing other areas of corrosion that are present.

Interesting. I've had the screen mounts replaced (under warranty) and also the brackets for my spot lights as I was unable to tighten them in the horizontal position and they kept drooping!

BMW authorised the replacement of my engine, swingarm and final drive due to the start of bubbling on my Sept 2013 model. I would push for replacement, rather than a waft over with a tin of silver Hammerite smooth.

Yes, they will do it for the 1st owner of the bike AFAIK.

Look on the positive side. You will very soon get a new engine and the one with the heavier flywheel. You can enjoy your bike with a newer engine longer. The rest, once sorted, will remain sorted. Now go ride!

I was the 2nd owner, having said that the bike had only done 505 miles when I bought it, privately

They suggested at the start of this that BMW would replace all the engine cases which would obviously mean them stripping all the internals from my current engine and popping into new cases!

Let me know how you get on, I'm just about to follow the same route regarding corrosion so any help would be appreciated, likewise I will do the same.

For me I could tell a difference when they replaced my engine for the heavy flywheel, and i preferred the faster spinning lighter engine, so the engine replacement did not bode well, plus all the other issues with a new engine !

I feel your pain, the frustration and having to battle with either the dealer or BMW HQ ain't good .

Best thing I did is get rid of the 2 bags of shite Wassers and spent a few quid on this instead .

i think its time for you to sit dowm and put pen to paper and fomaly reject the bike..people have had replacement bikes with less problems than yours

Several TC bikes and I've never had a problem, Luck maybe !

In all fairness I'm sure there were just as many problems with the first production of the hexheads and its was not until 2010 the issues seemed to get resolved and a better bike, however that was some 6 yrs after the first 1200 !!

I loved the performance and the tec of the LC at some stage we have to move on and embrace the latest technology but its a shame its let down by quality, I was very much loathed to part co and after 2 bikes, and I was offered a 3rd bike replacement FOC but took the money instead. I will be back on a LC after all it is a great bike but not just yet.
