On my 650, there is a nice space under the seat at the rear of the bike, but BWM placed an electrical connector right in the middle of it. Does anyone have an idea of what this connector is for, and can it simply be detached and swung out of the way?

Usually thats either indicators , rear light assembly (brake and rear light) or number plate light. Either way id say no you cannot just disconnect and move without losing some sort of lights ..:toungincheek

Personnely id disconnect it and see what doesnt work....

That's plugged into the OEM alarm on mine - you don't have one so just tape it out of the way.

I don't want to disconnect it...

As it comes from the factory, this connector is mounted to the inner top of the fender, and looks like it is just a dead end with a cap on it. When you remove the cap, the two terminals are joined by a resistor (probably for an alarm as BM donator suggests). I don't want to disconnect it, just detach it from the rear fender (where it is in the way) and swing the connector (with cap attached) out of the way, leaving free room for an expanded tool kit or whatever.

BTW, thanks for the replies everyone.

Plug

It is a dead end for the optional alarm system. Just tape it out of the way. I have that area full of phone charger, 12v socket, coocase charger/power (all battery direct) and extra cable.

If you still don't believe take a closer look at what it is plugged into, it is a plastic hub/holder with no electrical conections.

You mean you hadnt checked before asking

... Ill let you off with that comment Dahoum as it looks like old age is catching up with you already :augie:D
