Who's ordered one then?

Me:confused:

I know its going to end badly.
You NEVER buy the new model, i bought a 2004 when it came out what a pile of s*** i wish i could find a bike that i like that is reliable for more than 2 years and did not corode after the first year.
But i need a new one now but March will have to do and if i dont put a deposit down now its going to be the usual 3mth waiting list.

On a lighter note the wife wants a heated seat? this is an option on the triumph but not on the GS WHY

Congrats.:beerjug: I think this one will be a bit different to your 2004 reliability wise:rob:hide

nearly

Purchased a very fine second hand model a few years back but then left it and stuck with the 1150 due to reliability issues which started to rear up in the 1200. I passed up on a 7000 mile belter with every conceivable extra but stayed with the bullet proof Adv that i had then.

The Alpine white looks nice but - price tag is fairly hefty and have they sorted the problems that many 1200 owners have suffered over the years.

The exhaust note on a 12 has always sounded awesome and ye i have mates who run them, but build quality was unfortunately, in my opinion nowhere near earlier models of bike.

Instead of calling yourself "shortywilliam" you could have been " happywilliam" :augie or "cheerfulwilliam" :blast or even "lookonthefuckingbrightsidewilliam" :D

the main issues ie. fpc, fuel gauge, final drive, ring antennae should be sorted if customer feedback is listened to, there will be nothing to touch it, cant wait for the show to have a good look and make my mind up on colour:D

has any of the mags got hold of one yet to test?

What can possibly go wrong?they have been testing for 5 years ?
Had one of the first 2004 1200gs in Norway, never had a problem, due to sound maintenance and cleaning.
Norwegian prizes is slightly above last years prizes,I payed 252000nkr for my 1200 gs rally and put 15000nkr on it from Touratech.

Totally agree as im sure BMW would not risk a sales drop with the new bike , the 1200 was a new design from the 1150 ,as fishburger states 5 years in development must be good as the bike is not new but improved from the existing 1200 , not a complete revamp of the 1150 .

Err... have you actually looked at the new GS?... I think they re-use the turn signals.. I'll give you that.. (oh.. and they re-use the displacement size)

But everything else is new... (to us anyways)

Sykkelveske fester,is the same as pannier fastners, actualy it is the stainless steel bolts wher you lock your panniers to.

I have looked at the new bike and of course styling would be different but under the skin similar and sure all new computers / eletrics etc fully tested as bmw are not a firm that would presume its going to be good unless fully tested.

Yes different but still the same basic design and all is an improvement on a tested bike not a total change. IMHO :thumb
I would and am thinking about having one and im sure bmw would not f--k things up.
The first 2004 1200 was not that bad and total sales against failure figures i would imagine would not show it to be a 'beta tester' bike.
My last 2 ktms have had faults but never stopped me buying the next generation .

New GS

Hello All.

Been a member here for a while but I just read posts from time to time.

I've put £250 down on a new GS, (WC) think I was the first at Balderstons in Peterborough back in October. Now can't wait for the bike show at the end of the month to see it in the flesh!

It will be my second GS (and third BM) after having a 57 plate GS which was sadly taken from me back in July 2010! All thanks to a massive twat in a bus with an oil leak!!

Well I only have one reservation about it, I'm not worried that it's new, I can't think BM will launch it with any major issues (as some are telling stories of early 04 1200's having problems) nor is it the indicator switch, which I for one hate the idea of change - I like the old two thumbs approach it sets us apart ! It's not the swap of the shaft and exhaust .......... It's the KTM 1190!

I think I need some help and so I turn to you, my fellow BM riders. Please convince me I'm following the correct path and will not repent should I follow the orange one!!

Jonnyp

Buy the KTM then I will be first in the queue - I was in Balderston the same day as you and you beat me to the first deposit by about 5 mins :-)

i was talking to a dealer yesterday, 27 deposits and september delivery, if you dont put a deposit on one there could be a possibility that all next years allocation will be gone

If you believe that, you'll believe anything:blast Or are you taking the piss?

A nice looking design but even more road focussed than the current range of bikes.

My only concern with the water cooled design is the water pump shaft seal.

From the cutaway engine drawings I've seen on the web, it looks as if in the event of shaft seal failure (presumably a carbon faced seal) the cooling system contents would end up in the sump. Not good for cooling or lubrication if that proves to be the case.

i was told 50 bikes staggered delivery in 2013 each dealer and rainbow are looking at september delivery for new deposits taken, and thats just over a month since the announcement of the wc,

Nope. Nonsense. They are just trying to get you to put a deposit down on one so their books look good.:rob
