When I was i kid, i wanted the R90S so bad. It had 67 hp. Wow...
Then Kawasaki launched their rocketship, the z900 with 82 hp, and Honda launched the Goldwing with 80 Hp, and the older guys said, "Now, why would we ever need that much power in a bike, this is rediculous "
Since the dawn of time people have been wanting more. More women, more money and more power. So even if we find the current 1200LC powerful, there will always be room for more.
Every so often a factory has to come up with something new, so the 1250 is bound to come. If we don't like it, don't buy the bike, and if you still want the new bike but don't feel you need extra power, drive the bike in rainmode.
I had a chat with my local "pusher" today.
GS with the new motor is coming. He said BMW had shown the bike to the dealers early this spring. The bike presented to them at the time looked just like a 2018 GS except for the heads, which looked different. He also claimed that there was quite a few bikes driving around with the new heads. So, since BMW have used the VV technology for a long time in their cars and are now driving them intensely, he felt he would sell his customers a well tested engine.
But he was not sure if the 2019 would be a repeat of 2010 when the overhead valve engine was launched to the Hex-head bike, or if the final version would look different even if presented as the current bike this spring.
As for power, the claim was for 135 hp, as already mentioned, but he did not have the numbers for the torque nor at what RPM the power was generated.
Here is lots og talk about horse power.
In my world, HP is not so important. To me the torque curve is important. Keep in mind that HP is merely a calculation, where the formula is : HP = Torque (Nm) x RPM (in thousands) / 5252. I.e if the engine produces 100Nm of torque, an increase in max rpm by 1000 rpm will give you 19 hp more. The current LC engine already has a redline above 9k. Speaking for my self, I hardly ever go to the redline, most of my riding happens below 7K. The current LC seems to become less spirited when passing 6 (coming from the K-model, this annoyed me at first), so I have to admit I will probably be in front of the que when the new engine comes out, even if the current bike is also is exceeding my riding capability by far. So I want one, not because I need it, but because I want it.
