Now I know you’re talking bollocks, as there are several riders on the American forum that have had their bikes much faster than that. You may be getting confused with the 1290R’s fitted with knobblies, as the dealers are able to restrict the top speed, then take it off when road tyres are fitted.
Nevertheless, if you’re going to spout crap on a forum, at least do a little research first, old chap.

Simple reality is that bikes are like all machines and modern manufacturing methods mean that the differences between a "good" one and a "crap" one are now infinitesimal.
Personally (having owned several) I will never see what the real-world benefits of a bike with more than 75bhp are. Never mind a well-ridden GS, what about a well-ridden CB500?
So it all comes down to marketing and the ability of manufacturers and their agencies to manipulate our preferences.
If you're happy to ride a bike covered in bright orange scaffolding with a headlight that reminds you of things you'd rather not be reminded of and the world's worst reputation for reliability (remember what KTM actually stands for?), good luck to you. I've ridden several KTMs and liked them all. (Singles are definitely in different league to the twins though!)
At the moment, I'm happy with my GS. You'd never choose it for its looks but it seems to do what it's supposed to do, has taken me on a few grin-inducing trips and after 15,000 miles of year-round riding, it hasn't a mark on it. Mind you, the same was true of my RT, my Multistrada, my Stelvio etc. etc.
As for all the new tech - who gives a shit? Well, my sense is nobody does - until they've got it.
I have a nice (pretty new and pretty expensive) car with a part-TFT dash. This weekend I had a basic Mercedes A-Class rental car with full TFT display. Now mine looks/feels like a 1960s Austin.

I don't think TFT or Keyless is progress.Just more technology that can go wrong as there is nothing wrong with analog gauges and a real key that does not cause problems when the battery goes bad.

As more power,more torque,better handling and less weight...
Like in 2009 when BMW beat the Japanese in their own game and have done ever since with the S1000RR with a more powerful engine and the electronic aides like ABS,TC,ESA to make the added performance accessable for the buying public...
Same with the GS;get the power up which makes it more fun additional to offering the best road bike period and for the next generation bring the weight down which is always a good thing ! And maybe change the exhaust for 2 full size bags !
Ducati and KTM have a much longer way to go to convert their bikes to shaftdrive and get a decent suspension system on par with BMW's TL ! AS the boxer will have always have the advantage over a V-twin in easier maintenance,no gyro from the crankshaft which is good for handling and added safety protection bike and riders legs...
As also a much better after sales organization with more parts and dealerships...

Just using the bike in an area you may be unfamiliar with . Nutty suggested I was a riding god so I decided to respond with a friendly offer .
You however post another version .
My riding experience is wide , track , road , trial , motocross and enduro , all at high levels . So before you decide to label someone please think first as you really could be going down the same road as other divkheads on this site who seen to be experts on everything except reality.
Anyone kind enough to share hard-won experience and advice is one of the good guys, in my book, so I doff my cap to you.
It’s what being part of the biker fraternity is all about. It makes me sad to see people on the forum bickering about silly things when we’re all supposed to be in the same brotherhood.
