Stick we are cut from the SAME wood.I don't care about what magazines say or what brands wins in MotoGP or wsb.It doesn't mean sheet.I know bikes after 35 season on road & track. And when I read how reliable KTM's are or how TL kills "feedback" I just have to laugh...:D
On the road there is NOTHING that can touch a GS except for a GS with 150 hp,17 inch wheels and less weight:thumby:
If you can't beat sportbikes on twisty backroads it is definitely not the bike but the rider to blame...
Except for maybe the S1000XR...;) but I hate chains and don't want my legs exposed in a crash which I had plenty as there is only 2 forms of riders. Those who have been down and those who will go down !
Skid I have TTX on my 2017GSADV but I'm honest with you and would not do it again because the difference to ESA set on max/2-up dynamic is not as big as the cash outlay to upgrade.Maybe if Ohlins were ESA compatible I would do it again. They work great but not 2 grand better as the stock system already works very well.I don't care about comfort I just want the wheels stick to the road and the bike stable. The TTX are more comfortable and super compliant.Great product but not 2 grand greater. All the other stuff fromwilbers, maxton or touratech I don't care about as OHLINS is SUSPENSION and knows their stuff and has the R&D,money and experience like no other !

Looks like they are still selling Koolaid…..Thought that shit was all gone....

It's true. Hutchy and Michael Dunlop are both on GS's in next years TT .... :thumb2

Having read most of this thread with amusement,it strikes me as a bit odd.
The modern Gs is about as far removed from the original Gs as it could possibly get.
The talk of 150 bhp,17 inch wheels etc etc.
It’s turned into a sports bike for old fat blokes that can no longer reach the bars on an R1 or blade.
The newer KTM,s are much the same
So powerful that it needs rider aids just to stop mr average throwing it in a ditch.
For me,personally, the last oil cooled tc was about perfect.(but I still don’t like the traction control)
A very quick cross country bike, good manners on the motorway, loaded with pillion affected the bike not one bit.
And to me( this is the important bit)
It could still be used off road,it will take a load of hammer without falling apart, a proper GS.
Just my opinion of course,no disrespect to you guys who want a 150 mph bike:D

Nailed it.........:thumb although I could still reach the bars on any bike, not sure I would like to ride in that position for a long period of time, so hail the GS as I know it 2017, before only Harley......

Re Mikeyboy's comment he has nailed it, I know some ex professional riders who on an old r80rt job bike could get from a to b on back roads faster than most could manage on a gsr1100 or exup of the same era and they did it without histronics.
I dare say even today the same ones now long retired on the same r80 would give a 150 bhp ktm, bmw or whatever a good run for their money on b roads.
BMW doesn't need more power and gadgets it needs better quality control and production values

Well you now know how we stand if we or your fellow mates met , I can take a joke a bit of piss take but you are like water torture , relentless and pointless to the real world , please get a life and fuc off or as said before , ride out of you comfort and go to sleep. if you really wish to sort this man to man , pm me and I will end it. I promise xx

You want a date don’t you!

I’m not fooled by all that macho, alpha male bullshit. You just want a date don’t you!
You know, in that way that teenage boys are really nasty to girls they fancy ‘cos they aren’t yet sure how to behave with somebody of the opposite sex?

Anyway, don’t worry, I’d love to meet up. That’d be wonderful :)

Fancy a meal? I’m veggie and I’m guessing you’re a red blooded meat eater so how’s about Indian or Italian, we’ll both have stuff we can eat then?

Thanks for the thought, appreciated :)

PM me lover boy x

Giles you know what I mean. The TT is on roads with long straights closed for RACING...of course a RR is faster but I talk about twisty back roads and bumpy pavement.NOTHING touches a GS here ! Only a lighter one with more power and 17 inch wheels right from the factory...or the S1000XR...:D
Mikeyboy you are right the original G/S has little in common with todays except that in 1980 the R80G/S or even more so the 1987 R100GS were already the best street bikes BMW had made so far !
And yes having one for the street with 150hp/17 inch wheels like someone said a comfortable sportbike would be as great as one going back to the original idea...:thumby:
They came pretty close with the "Urban" GS...all it needs is better slightly taller suspension,center-stand and aluminum hardbags right from the factory to have a real G/S or modern version of the original !
All they have to do and get their heads out of their asses...;) as Urban / GS is a oxy-moron.
Of course a R 1250 S would be a very tasty proposition too. But this time done right and not like the R1200S which was neither a sportbike nor a tourer.Done right as fun and capable for the track and still with a tank big enough for trips not having to stop every hour for gas and practical options like centerstand and hardbags...:beerjug:

Fuck it, I have PM`d you:D:D

Or better meet up at a trackday where the tire hits the road and all the BS ends and the right hand does the talking !
In a fancy restaurant you can only settle who is more generous and takes up the tab or has the smaller bladder after a few pints...:D

:

S1000XR contradicts everything you have been saying :blast

No Ding-Dong it doesn't !
As there is no other bike like the GS or the XR on the market !
The XR having the advantage of a motor with ballistic top-end or if you keep it above 9000 rpm ballistic pull in any gear or speed and the 17 inch front wheel building up less gyro for slightly quicker steering.
The fork is not as big of a handicap on the XR as you got 20 cm travel where regular forks give you roughly 12 cm and therefor are setup harder and still will bottom out while the XR's fork doesn't ! Of course TL is still better as it is more compliant and virtually no or very little forkdive while hard on the brakes.

Bang on. :thumb Which is why I have sold my LC GSA and won't ever be buying any new bike ever again. It seems like all the current consumers care about is numbers and techno-shite. The bike itself is of no importance as long as it has ABC and XYZ, and so the manufacturers build their bikes accordingly.

The K1300S was/is still a very good (looking) & modern bike and very fast.
But for backroads a little bit too stable/long...too bad they let it die and never brought a replacement but I guess the market has moved on as Kawasaki moves ZERO of their supercharged new H2SX sports-tourer and no new Hayabusa is on the horizont.Too big,too heavy, chaindrive…?
Stick I don't agree with you on the XR...;)but I want the complete package;Boxer,TL & shaftdrive:thumby:
