600 mile service today

Leave 'The Establishment' alone will you?
They did us lot a huge favour last weekend.:aidan

I took a K16 for a wee spin when I had the RT. Wasn't for me but I wouldn't rule
out having one in the future. :thumby:

I can hardly face the day.

I now know that I have 320 kg's of reluctant to turn, difficult to operate switchgear and appalling weather protection sitting in my garage. Before it was just the aggressive tyre wear, a pull to the left and overheating that concerned me. My life is in tatters :tears

If 'Quins go on to lose at home to Scarlets this afternoon, I'll be looking for a yard of hemp and making my way to Blackfriars Bridge. Boots size 44, form a tidy queue, no dibs.

Stay way from the bridge :D cracking game to watch on tv but I fear not so enjoyable for the stoop faithful :blast

They're so different from any other Twin Cam GSA, didn't you know :)

However the daddy is the 90th Anniversary - a real emperor's bike & in gold too

I bet you feel so insecure now Wapping riding a 1600 - how degrading

Anyway I wouldn't worry it's only a paper thin affirmation that MA has bought the right bike again....and again. ...and again

Until he buys a WC in a few weeks time :)

Out of the last seven bikes five have been GS Adventures - at least I'm consistent!

Some (most) of the changes have been financial and some forced by a health issue with my right knee.

What has made a real change this time is the Sargent seat, I have always loved the Adventures but sometimes struggled with the height, that could best be described as borderline for me. This setup has made a massive change in my confidence with the bike.

Re the switchgear what I actually said was that I PREFER the two paddle set up. I think most of you riding the two bikes back to back would reach the same conclusion. And it's not a question of familiarity - I ride with single switch indicators on my C1 six days a week.

And I also said that the LC is a great bike for many people, just not for me. The Hexhead GSA is so perfect for me no further changes are planned.

Apologies if I offended any 1600 owners but it hit a real nerve with me as it so reminded me of my K100RS 16v that I bought new in August 92. Since moving over to Boxers I have never looked back.

No, because my main point is that of Hexhead v the new liquid cooled. I obviously made that decision when I purchased my Triple Black Adventure a few weeks ago but it has proved to be a winner for me. In particular I am more convinced than ever that the switchgear of the LC sucks and that's reassuring to know.

Also there has been some discussion about first service costs elsewhere and I just wanted to add my stats.

You dont have to justify what you post. There are some members of this forum that seem to think it clever either to tell you that you have posted in the wrong place or you are asking something that has been asked before. It's not clever - its both rude and unhelpful

Lovely plumage but the pull to the left reminds me of my sidecar days:D

You think the K16's shite? Try the RT, it has to be the most depressing bike BMW makes.

I spent a day with one, and it was as much fun as a Can-Am in heavy traffic.

It feels like a scooter to ride, the mirrors are in the most ridiculous position requiring you to lower your eyes and refocus to use them. The steering just feels wrong, and the engine is so weak that one wonders what the fuel consumed is actually being used for.

Think yourself lucky you at least were loaned a bike with a bit of grunt.

I see you are an LC owner. I have ridden the LC and really liked it so I'm sorry if I have offended you.

What I said was the that I preferred the twin paddle set up. Many owners and those coming to BMW for the first time will undoubtedly prefer a single switch. I'm not convinced that BMW have got the switch quite right yet and I was troubled by having to reach around the control wheel as mentioned elsewhere.

LC is is a great bike and soon will be the only GS one can buy new (standard or Adventure). There is no right or wring answer here!

Some aspects of LC were not my cup of tea and I was able to save many thousands of pounds against the cost of LC in Adventure trim by taking up the Triple Black + extras offer and, for me, it was a good result.

I did not mean to be rude about the LC but I am surprised by your low opinion of the RT - that has the same engine as my Adventure so I'm guessing the gearing and 110bhp instead of 125 bhp made quite an impression on you.

I agree about the mirrors though!

Enjoy your bike and ride safe

Phil

Eh? I'm quite happy with the comment you made about the LC. Quite honestly I agree with you re the indicator switches. I just didn't like the RT

Losing bonus point, at home. No real heavyweight power upfront and lots of running sideways. Hey-oh, it's only October.

Was the bonus point just enough to save you from a chilly end in the Thames? I'm a mite disappointed as I was looking for a new pair of boots and yours are just my size. ;)

How can you not like the RT ?. Its the greatest bike that's ever been made, by anyone, ever, in a hole wide world. Obviously LC owners are now just jealous cos they bought the wrong bike. As for the K1600 owners they just think they need a bigger penis, I mean bike (no, knowing 2 of them, I think I am right the first time).:clap

GIRLS, JUST ACCEPT WE ALL LIKE DIFFERENT BIKES FOR DIFFERENT REASONS. :hide

PS. OBVIOUSLY, the 2012 model RT1200RT-SE is the top bike. Better gearbox, weather protection, econony and comfort than a K16 and no radiator to get blocked. The RT is also better than an LC as it has a better box, no coolant/oil leaks, the frame isn't welded by a blind man and doesn't need washers fitted to the frame to take panniers etc etc.

PPS, yes I am biased as I ride the true best bike an RT

This may appear twice as the gremlins in the works seem to have struck :blast
After 3 losses on the trot them boots may well become available if things don't improve. There will be a line forming on the bridge of Quinn's in them funny blazers waiting to jump :D

Fair point. At least it's got the right number of wheels. :-)

I had a test ride on a K1600 while my 2011 GSA was being serviced and was a little disappointed. It was very refined, quiet, well equipped and well made but I didn't find it very exciting to ride. It almost felt like a 2 wheeled Audi to me. It was very powerful but I didn't find it especially quick (probably due to size and mass), certainly not as quick accelerating as my old R1, and I didn't think it was particularly torquey low down.

I was happy to get on my old GSA and ride home again afterwards. However, this is just my opinion, I know everyone is different and I am sure some people wll love the K1600's. Horses for courses and all that. :aidan
