Another European odyssey....!

Quick 5 minute donder to our lodgings for the week...

A smart place, recommended by a mate, but at 600 quid for a week, including breakfast, and an upgrade is not that bad for a city centre.

Found any cheap beer yet?

Or overwhelmed with stag nights and hen nights?

Apparently they are doing their best to discourage that sort of thing...pub crawls are now actually illegal...
After a wee nap and a freshen up after 2 days travelling we sorted forth ....lots of impressive architecture to admire, and particularly fine coffee house..

We are leaving here next Sun evening on the sleeper back to Brussels...

She just couldn't resist the temptation...sorry!

  • Haha
Reactions: Doc
Prague is a lovely city, enjoy.

But, you make your 70 year young wife climb to the top bunk on the sleeper, shame on you :augie

Obviously enough to do for a week or are you hiring a car Gérard ?

Nice trip
Love the pics and enjoy your trip

When I was 11, we travelled from Exeter to Lloret de Mar on the Spanish Costa Brava
That was an odyssey for a young boy
Mum didn’t take any notice of the briefing notes beforehand that stated there wasn’t a buffet car on SNCF and to bring food and drink for the trip through France (Mum didn’t do ‘picnics’)
Vivid memories of my Dad rushing down a French platform on the only 2stops in France, to buy provisions from the food trolley vendor and trying to get back onboard, so that we didn’t die of starvation & dehydration!!
Needlessly to say, on the return journey-we stocked up in a Spanish supermecardo

To catch up...
A donder through the city, which is completely walkable...magnificent architecture at every turn.
This part of Europe seems to have been a major part in every civilisation there's been!
Culminating in the German Invasion(Heydrich etc), the post war carve up, the Russian Invasion(Prague Spring) and then booting out the soviets...(Velvet revolution).
It's now a modern democratic Republic, and it shows.
But all these influences have left their mark in stunning skylines!

We found a very historic cafe for a break..this is one of the few nations..as well as France and the UK..that hasn't banned Absinthe, and this cafe, once the haunt of Kafka etc, regards itself as the epicentre of Absinthe in Prague, hence the artwork..

You will have seen the film about the 2 guys who were inserted by the SOE to assassinate Heydrich...they were trained at Arisaig..they succeeded, but with terrible revenge exacted by the Nazis....this a term often used to try and pretend that the country doing such damage to their European neighbours wasn't really Germany...000's executed and whole villages flattened..

We had a great week there a few year ago.
Our accommodation was on a barge moored, on the river, near the bridge.
Have you seen the wonky building near the river!
Parking the car underground was a nightmare - built for Fiat 500s!
