My clutch slave cylinder dumped its fluid into the clutch housing and contaminated the clutch has anyone had a go at replacing a clutch yet looks like an interesting job!
I haven't done one on the bike but its obviously similar to a cars dry clutch and I've done plenty of them. As a marine engineer, I wouldn't be afraid to do the job myself should the need arise. It's hardly rocket science and the tools required are basic hand tools. A Haynes manual should tell you all you need to know.
Feel confident about doing it yourself ??
Why not take a few pics and post a thread on it for those of us who may need to do it in the future?
You will remove rear subframe compltete with swing arm, rear wheel, airbox etc. Then you can remove the gearbox & access the clutch.
If you are stuck, give me a call.
Brian.
Thanks Brian might take you up on that I think I will leave it as a winter job don't want to be without the bike at the moment and it is not going to get any worse and only slips when provoked.
How old is the machine? BMW techs might help out as the machine is probably only just out of warranty, perhaps with full BMW history and bit of goodwill?

You've probably already checked but are your hand guards stopping the clutch lever from releasing fully. The slip when provoked symptom can be produced this way as well.
Thanks bb1 but the lever is fine, this was caused by the hyd oil leaking onto the clutch disc seems to be working itself out though think I will let it develop and see what happens.
Dont strip it down.
Take off the inspection cover and spray the clutch plate with brake and clutch cleaner spray.
Jog the engine and give it a good blast with a powerful air line.
It's worth a go.
I am surprised that the oil from the slave cylinde got as far as the clutch plate, it would have to run down the pushrod hole.
Has the seal popped on the slave?
The correct oil is Vitamol V10
Attached is a picture of pushrod and slave.
yes had the vitamol v10 in it when it went but replenished the system with some mad moroccan brake fluid and it has'nt lost a drop since! I have bought a new cylinder but I am waiting for the thing to Sh*t itself just to see how long it takes that was 4000Km ago and while I may be dreaming I think the clutch is slipping less. Self fixing fluid leak and self rectifying clutch what a bike.
