Hi all unfortunately had my 11 plate GS Adventure stolen a few weeks ago. Got it back the same day whoever nicked it found it too heavy to push so left it a 1/4 mile from my house behind some garages. In the end with new front frame a bit of wiring etc it worked out at £1000 to sort. Had it back a week went to start it on Sunday and the ews displayed and bike would not start. Dealer told me it was because it did not recognize the key and if it happened again I should take it in to be checked. My concern is I am going to Spain in March and I am worried that if it happens over there and does not correct itself will be getting recovered to the uk and it will spoil my trip. Anyone had similar issues and if so would you take it back to be checked now rather than leaving it?

You will find many EWS issues on older bike caused by a bad "batch" of antenna rings.

This seems to have been put to bed by BMW. Seeing yours has been stolen the antenna ring may have been damaged during the theft (it is the black plastic ring that surrounds the ignition key). It is a fairly straightforward job to change ,after you have removed the anti-bandit screws.

Only have one ignition key on your key ring, due to EWS seeing two keys with the same code and getting upset about it. Also, be sure your battery is fully charged as a lot of the electronic devices on newer machinery can be quite sensitive to an under voltage.
