Farkling my new to me R1150GSA.

And it's as simple as unbolting the filler cap and drilling two holes in it?!
I tend to drill at least 3 or 4.

The idea of cutting a slot is a good one, but more time intensive and will create more swarf to fall in the tank.

If it's not obvious... the holes let air out of the upper part of the tank, once liquid reaches them, you're full.

Another I remembered - I did fit an multi-LED Tail Light board into the existing housing and lens - which was much better than the original.
But technology has probably better options now

An update!

54 mile commute completed today and what can I say? What an absolute machine. I LOVE THIS BIKE.

  • At *ahem* motorway speeds the exhaust noise is barely noticeable. (y)
  • The bike pops and crackles fantastically when rolling off. (y)(y)(y)
  • The screen is set just perfect - I like to ride with my visor open (apart from when it's raining!) and at 80mph it's more than comfortable. (y)
  • It certainly picks up a LOT better with the Remus exhaust and the throttle seems a lot more responsive. (y)(y)
  • There seemed to be a lot less crap coating my legs / boots. (y)
  • 6th Gear is a god send. Moving up through the gears kicks out a fair amount of vibration but kicking into 6th kills it completely. (y)
  • Suspension is like riding a cloud and so much more feeling in the front end (y)(y)
  • I love the kick to the right from the engine you get when you're sat at traffic lights :DD
  • Road presence is brilliant and the Denali's are 🌟🌟🌟(y)
  • I've not had a chance to scare anyone with the horn (y) / (n)
  • No ABS / TC scares me a bit :ROFLMAO: I'm sure I'll get used to it!
  • The seat is a bit slippy (n)

I can't wait to get some more miles on this.

Cracking job that, H!!

Here's my bike aged three months after a Remus and Y piece went on.

It was fun for a couple of years but began to do my head in!! Back to stock for me.View attachment 379470

Y piece and standard exhaust, a lot quieter and doesn’t attract attention, leave that to the L plate riders and Sunday riders :D

Remus is bloody tiring if riding long distances

and do that external fuel filter mod... another classic...

Make it stop … and please, don’t mention external fuel filter mod :D

I can’t be the only person who’s removed stuff to make the bike lighter, rather than add shite and make it heavier :D

I’m loving the Remus 👍🏻

You’re not - first thing I did when I bought my current 1150 was to remove the crash bars, extra lights, beak extender, yards and yards of redundant wiring and various other bits and pieces. I know lots of people love all that stuff but for me less is more.

Me too
My black one was also to lose the crash bars

Wow... well you've done a great refurb on her mate, she's looking brilliant. Twos mine bought by me from new ....brilliant bike ....enjoy!
Fantastic to hear from you Charlie, and what a machine she is. Bought from a fellow UKGSer, Twizzle in December I’ve made my mark already.

Feel free to add any photos to this thread if you still have any. I’d love to see them!

Something else occurred to me to mention that might not be immediately obvious to folk of a non-mechanical nature.

The reason for the filler neck on the tank is to give plenty of room for fuel expansion within the tank.

If you do the filler neck mod, you are removing that expansion space.

So, if you fill up to the level of your drilled holes, then leave the bike for a while, you will very likely come back to a pool of fuel under the bike, or all over the tank and engine if the overflow drain is blocked (which happens easily)

So, my advice is to always fill up right at the start of a journey, ie leave home, fill up, ride. If you know you're not going to be using the bike for a while after fueling up, don't fill it to the top, but fill it to the bottom of the filler neck.

Part 8…ish.

54 miles through the back roads of the South Downs to ECM Motorcycles for my first service. The bike is getting the full works done including valve clearances.

Eric is a master of the boxer twin I’ll be using him for the foreseeable 👍🏻

Part 8 continued

The bike came with an old Zumo 400 - Twizzle warned me of the fickle power button, secured by sellotape. 2 weeks into ownership the power button decided it no longer wanted to be a power button, but a pathway for rain water directly into the circuit board. Zumo = Bricked.

Into the 21st century with the Zumo XT2!

Very happy with how this looks and feels on the bike!

Valve clearances adjusted, throttle bodies balanced and all the fluids changed and the bike is EVEN better. What a machine.

133 miles in total today and my journey home consisted of the A283 and the A272. Pure joy.

I really can’t help thinking that the horn is in a very silly position. :nenau
I made a bracket for mine and have it up at the top between the forks. It was a bit off a fiddle but works superbly.
Glad you’re happy with the 1150 though. :thumb2

It works well in the space, is protected from the crud and shite from the roads and it’s plenty bleedy loud enough! It’s the one piece Denali sound bomb which I was informed wouldn’t fit up under the forks :nenau

That’s the same horn as mine and it certainly will fit. :thumb2 Not easy but it will go. But, if you’re happy with yours and it’s position then that’s all that matters. :thumb2

Part 9

Everyone knows how crap the instrument lights are on the Gs’ so I took it upon myself to bring them into the 21st century. Can barely read the trip mileage especially at night which isn’t ideal when you’ve got a faulty fuel gauge!IMG_3860.jpeg

IMG_3861.jpeg

£10 from Amazon for next day delivery and 10 LED bulbs as well. What a difference this makes!!

Extremely impressed with how these turned out
