George, I'd be inclined to go to the Moderators and ask them for help in the first place.
In the Scottish Section that is Garfield. Tell the tale to him. If need be, forward to him the pm conversation that you have had with the seller.
Give the Moderators the opportunity to try and get them to be in touch with the seller, and enforce the commonly felt view here that this is not acceptable behaviour.
I would not, however, name and shame until you have gone through the Moderators.
A Moderator, I would have thought, moderates - not just what is written on the board, but any disputes between two parties.
And I do hope that this is resolved properly, and I mean by that a full apology given to you by the seller in due course.

Under the law you two were under contract;

He offered goods for sale,
You offered money to purchase said goods
He agreed to the offer of money.

That, in a civil court of law, is a verbal contract, and as such is binding.

a mans word is his bond?

hand it to the Mods.
the truth will out.

if all is as it seems -
( no offence to anyone but, all i see is words on a screen, so i know nothing)
the entire plot is totally against the spirit of UKGSers and will be dealt with and the offender outed.

cmon
NAME HIM!!!!!!!!

whats point of moaning if you wont out him?
lets see his side of things, does look like he is in the wrong, but we dunno till he posts,
if you wanted the mods to intervene you,d av done it via pm,s
but u put it on public display , so tell us:thumb2

Pm sent to Garfield even if i dont end up with the bike now , i still think it was a bit underhanded to go back on a deal.

It may well be that the seller (who might only have about 5 posts to his name) isn't fully aware of the spirit of UKGSer and of the protocol of how things work in the FSW section. Hopefully, he'll honour the deal with Geo once he reads all this and has contact with the Mods. Alternatively, he might have simply "worked" the forum to his own ends and has no interest in any kind of Tosser brotherhood.

I hope it's the first scenario.

Anyone owning up to be unwittingly buying for £500 extra?

I have a lot of sympathy with what you are saying, and I have not gone to look for a past dated bike sale thread. Hence my reason for saying speak to the Mods and not bring the guys name out into the public, in case there is some real misunderstanding.
If the Mods are not able to sort this kind of thing out, then what are they there for? I believe they can, and if things are the way that George has relayed them to us, then he is owed an apology, or else the seller gets punted by BHT.:beerjug:

Im not looking to start a vendetta against the guy, i was just looking for some advice on how to deal it the situation.

You're right, Charles and have a more moderate and reasoned thought process than (me included) the lynching party :D

Mind you, we can still get a bit of rope if it turns out that the seller is at it :thumb

What a chancer another £500, Tell him to stick his bike up his erse:mad:

Ive offered to meet him half way to try and resolve the issue.
and pay an extra £250 above the agreed amount.
Does that sound reasonable?

No, I wouldn't deal with him.
Why should you pay extra?
Walk away and let someone else pay the premium.
Tell him to stuff it!

Unless you're desperate for that particular bike?

If it is as clear cut as you say, then please do exactly that- let us have the details and copies of all the PM's etc. and we'll have a good look at it and do our best to resolve it.

If it is that cut and dried and we can't resolve it, I would suspect that our conclusion would probably be that it's totally unacceptable behaviour that none of us want to see on the board and our action would probably be to ban him and his IP address.

We do need to see the details though and will always see if there's another point of view from the seller- I remember a certain individual making some outrageous claims a while back and in the end it was the person who made the allegations who had to be sani-tized :augie but from what you've posed above, it's plainly not on and we will do our best to resolve/deal with it, as all of us value the integrity and normally superb way things go on the FS&W section.

If Paul (Garfield) doesn't get back to you pretty quickly, it may well be that he's going to the GOTC so please feel free to send me all the details and I'll gather the coven together to look into it.....we'll try and have it sorted by the end of the weekend ;)

PS if you need to, I'm fanum1*at* gmail*dot*com :beerjug:

Bill

Note for the bloodthirsty who have scented a killing and have already posted on this thread- please chaps, before demanding 'name and shame' and a public lynching, let us have a look at it first- there ARE often two sides of the story as some will remember from the case I mentioned above- some people work away others just make cock-ups and there are one or two chancers who will rip the piss if they can get away with it so please, let us do our jobs first and bear in mind that if you were away on a trip and some twat came on and made allegations against you that were unfair, you could easily be hung out to dry without knowing anything about it unless the proper procedures are followed (IE letting the mods look into it and handle it in the first instance.)
If a public lynching is deserved, you can have the corpse back afterwards and do with it what you will :D

Unless you're desperate for that particular bike?

There are a lot of great bikes coming for sale on here and they are worth a bit of travelling to buy :thumb2

also if you cant get to see a bike due to distance but would travel to collect, i am sure that someone local to the seller might view it for you to make sure it is the real mccoy:thumb
