Garmin 2595LMT ~ mapsource??

I've recently bought a new 2595 and stupidly thought I could use it as I always have used all my other Garmin unitsover the years by plugging it into my PC and having it detected in Mapsource so I could copy over my waypoints and routes etc.... Have I misunderstood what Garmin have now done and is it now so dumbed down that Mapsource is dead - everything is only in the unit itself?
I can't seem to get Mapsource to see the new 2595 no matter what I try

I've just done exactly the same thing. It looks like Mapsource won't recognise a Nuvi 2595 although Basecamp will. I tried it on two different computers, both of which could see the Nuvi as a removable drive. Garmin Express (a horrid pretence of software) can see it on three machines here so I guess the Nuvi is invisible to Mapsource. I sometimes think that Garmin has decided it hates customers who want anything other than being blindly led, hence Basecamp and Garmin Express, although it did eventually allow me to download CN2014.10 to one of my computers, where both Mapsource and Basecamp can access it. How to copy the maps onto another machine is the next challenge.
