Garmin have F**ked the Drive app.

You convert the track to a trip on the XT. It comes out how you plotted it.
It's how I have always done mine.
I don't like doing this as you lose all your via points.

For example I sometimes plan certain stops for Coffee / Lunch / Viewpoints / Attractions etc so with a track it will navigate you right past them.

As stated I also like to use them for timings, if I have a coffee stop up next I can set the arrival time to next destination to see how long until next stop, also handy in a group with comms as all your bikermates will constantly want to know "when are we stopping"...

...And I tell them if they get lost / drop behind then unless they are in trouble to carry on and meet at the next stop point, and if diversions, weather or something else really buggers up your morning you can re-start the route and ask it to start from say the Lunch stop, so it will take the fastest route using main roads to that point rather than your planned route along goat tracks, which you no longer fancy in the rain, where you can then continue on the planned route if you have made up enough time / it has stopped raining.

I do however always show the Track on the screen, which gives away if the XT is diverging from the original planned route, if everyone has a Garmin (or something you can show route and track at same time) this can help avoid people taking slightly different paths - regardless of waypoints being every mile or two, in towns and cities different devices will often take a slightly different paths, especially in towns and cities where there can be multiple paths between two waypoints of similar distance and times.

When I’m feeling stronger, I’ll have a go at editing this thread, as there’s different topics being discussed.

Just got this reply back from Garmin regarding the borked drive app. After I called them I uploaded an email with a pictorial description of the issues the the current version of the Drive app had caused. I think that a fair few people had contacted them about the issue which was good, as it will hopefully be resolved soon.

Thank you for your email.

This issue will be resolved in an upcoming Drive app update. We'll notify you via email once the new version is available for download in Google Play.

Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Kind regards,

Jake

I raised a ticket through Google play and am awaiting response. I'm not holding my breath that they'll return the function we need anytime soon.

Glad I have installed a previous version and can carry-on as before.

Garmin Drive on my Android phone is now at 4.29.28 which people who use it says fixes the problems the earlier update introduced.

I don't use Drive for transferring routes etc so can't comment on its working / not working after the update.

I received this from Garmin.

This issue is now resolved with Drive app version 4.29.28, which was just released. Please install the latest version from Google Play and verify that it's now functioning properly.

Thank you for choosing Garmin,

Having used the app for me there appears to still be a bit of an issue with a refresh of the app before it functions to transfer a file. I initially could not get the app to function but found that opening a second instance of the app then closing it initiated the send function. Previously the app opened and the send file function was initiated after a request to share a file was initiated. I have subsequently found that minimising the app then opening it again also causes the app to work. I have no Idea if this is associated with a setting on my phone or its a bug in the new iteration. I sent this reply to Garmin last night when I finally got the app to transfer routes. I haven't recieved a reply yet.

Further to my last e-mail. I can get the app to work but to get the app to recognise the file to be transferred I have to share the file with the drive app.....nothing happens. If I the open a second instance of the drive app then close it the file dialog appears in the first instance of the Drive app and it transfers to the ZumoXT.

Hope this helps?

In a word or two…. Garmin have apparently ‘half mended’ it.

‘It’s progress Jim, but not as we know it”

I do not think Garmin does any type of QA before releasing... and haven't done in a while...
