Where are the deals to be had?

Whats the point of chrome exhaust pipes? Is it that they look better but need more looking after?

After riding a demo bike from my local dealer, I was hooked. However they couldn't or wouldn't do a decent price/deal so I bought mine new (in June) from North Oxford Garage. I had various extras including ABS, H Grips, full computer, clear indicators, vario topbox and a full chrome exhaust all for less money than the local dealer came up with for ABS and H.G only. The bike was also delivered to my home with a full tank of fuel. The first service was done and I was provided with a loan bike free. (F800... made a change).

The chrome exhaust should not turn brown. It looks great now it has blued the down pipes. I would certainly go for a chrome exhaust unless you intend to fit an after market item.

That's cool - I know of North Oxford and they are within range.

Can't see the point of the computer, though. But if they added it as a sweetener I wouldn't refuse.

I've also test ridden a Tiger 1050, and have to say it has a truly remarkable engine. I've got an older 955i Sprint and compared to that the newer triple is a lot more refined and plenty powerful.

I don't know if NOG are currently offering a good deal but they were good when I bought mine.
I was tempted by a new 955i Tiger when they were moving out the last ones. £5800. Bargain really but I was sold on the GS and I thought the Triumph luggage was poor. The 1050 is nice but seems to have swayed towards more of a sports or even a bit supermoto rather than a distance/tourer like the old Tiger and GS.

"Chrome" pipes on mine look after 3.5K like my 02 GS and not like the sh1t that the non chrome ones look after a couple of miles. If you like autosol / wonder wheels etc and hours of elbow grease don't bother with the chrome option.

Computor, a toy yes, but usefull as you get range / oil check and av speed and fuel consumption. Don't know what the non computor version gets :o but it's nice to play with on the motorway.

Without the computer you still get a range estimate when the tank hits the low-fuel warning. Which is the important bit IMHO.

Do they use a bit of oil then? Is it a constant-rate consumption or more unpredictable?

Grizzly, have a look at some of the secondhand bikes for sale with the NON chrome pipes and you will see they are brown and look crap. Mine has now done 2.5K and they are clean but with heat colouring (blue).

As John says the computer is a toy but nice to see av speed and consumption, ambient temp etc.

Forgot to say, that since the first service done at 600 odd miles, the oil level has gone from near the top of the window to about a third of the way from the bottom. The bike is ridden fairly quickly with occasional 120mph

Newbie here

Hello everyone.
I've not bought a 1200GS yet but probably will be this week. I test rode one for 3hrs on Saturday and I'm convinced I need one. Even the wife agrees after years of sports bikes. My local dealer isn't offering me the best deal so I was wondering what happens when it comes to the first service if I buy from a dealer down south? Also, anyone know who's doing a good deal?

(First 600 mile service is free)

Thanks for that. I've trawled the net and although I would prefer to give a local dealer my hard earned you've hit the nail on the head when it comes to my cheapest quote for a cash sale. I may give a couple of other local dealers a call. Why don't some open on a Monday when us shift workers are off? :)

Mondays

I know - it's quite annoying that some dealers think they're hairdressers and take Monday off - I'm there tomorrow for my 600 mile check - do you want me to have a word? (sometimes it's better face to face and I've been dealing with them for some time now).

What are you looking for?

PM me if you do...

I spoke to a sales chappy called Nick on Saturday afternoon. I will probably give him a call tomorrow afternoon after visiting Rainbow (Rotherham) to see if they can get near his deal. I'm just concerned that I'll have to go all the way to Essex to have the 600 mile service done. Suppose it's swings and roundabouts re cost to purchase. Let me see if my local dealers are willing to get close to Cannons quote.
Cheers anyway.

600 mile service

Surprised to find that the 600 mile service is no longer free! Should've asked I suppose - win some lose some........
