Always wonder in these circumstances what happens to the old(replaced)machine?

You'd hope it's quietly led off to it's final resting place and put out of it's misery. That or it ends up as "Approved used" on a forecourt somewhere but I'd doubt that.

It will get the part that bmw says should be replaced and stuck back in the showroom. Maybe not at that dealer but somewhere. It will have the remainder of its warranty and be someone else's nightmare/pride and joy. Not sure what happens to the rejected bikes that were to get replacement engines or whatever though and rejected.

All is well that ends well :thumb2 Many trouble free miles and smiles with your new bike. Do post pictures when you get it.

As you've (it seems) had not so good experiences with your last few bikes, check if there is a witchdoctor on here to ward off any gremlins. Put the request for a witchdoctor in the wanted section on here. :D

Well BMW are confident that the new brain will fix it once and for all.

Apart from the power problem, the bike has been fine :blast

They will replace the part and then sell it again.

Assuming the new brain solves it, then any buyer should have no problem provided that they get a decent warranty.

I would have kept it if I hadn't been so pissed off with the time that it took to resolve the issue.

Well I have spoken with Ben Perry again this morning and, I'm delighted to say, that the bike will be replaced with a contribution from me for the mileage on my old bike, which is fair enough.

So thanks to everyone who has contributed on here and to Ben Perry, of BMW Motorrad, who has been really helpful in resolving the matter.

It's just a great shame that it has taken so long to resolve this but I'm happy with the arrangement.

I'd say that was a good result Dave :clap

I've met Ben Perry and found him to be a thoroughly decent chap :thumby:

That's a good outcome.:thumb

The old bike will be collected by BMW, taken back to HQ and fixed. It'll then go back into the dealer network (not your dealer though).

Excellent news, pleased to hear that after all that time. Perhaps consider posting the VIN number on here so when someone pops up with the same nightmare having bought your faulty bike you can tell 'em all about it.

He's already put the registration number on here.

This is what happened to my 2 rejected bikes .

The dealer where the bike is at now will carry out the repair under the warranty, once done the bike will go into the dealer network auction for dealers to bid, usually the dealer whom is holding the bike will most probably buy it unless they have to much stock.

It seems that a PUMA case was opened up in March with BMW and then, despite problems re-occurring, a fresh case was opened on 22nd December - so nine months later. No one had gone back to BMW to report that the March issue was on going.

Anyway I now have an interesting opportunity as I pretty much have a credit to the value of the GS plus extras, so I'm trying to decide between another GS (which will no doubt plummet in value, as the dealers have lots of second hand ones) to the same spec, an S1000 XR or going down in size and value to an F800GS plus stuff.

A nice problem to have.

Is that a credit note to the value of the price you paid or a credit note to the value of your bike now !

Take an XR out for a whole day (not an hour or two), and be prepared to fall in love.

It's a credit to the value of what the bike has cost me plus extras fitted, I believe, less an £1,100 contribution from me for the 5,500 miles ridden.

I'm waiting for confirmation in writing as getting anything in writing seems difficult.

I've no reason to doubt that this is the case though.

Chester Motorrad are being very helpful at the moment.

Demo on the S1000XR shortly.
