Last Saturday,I went for a ride around north Wales, and decided to have a ride down some of the fire tracks and forest roads.
Third gear as normal, quite enjoying myself, about 40mph on a really nice gravel track, when I saw what looked like a concrete step, about 20 yards in front of me.No hope of stopping,so I just got the front light enough to skip over it,but the back wheel hit it like there was no tomorrow, probably 45-50mph.
The back of the bike came up so violently,I thought it was going to go right over the front.I managed to stay on,and stop(sort of
) without doing to much damage to myself. We'll say no more about that, ahem.
Brand new back TK must have popped off the rim, because there was 39psi when I started, and 12psi after I hit the step, which was about 4ins high. The rear bevel bearings have pretty much given up,the tourqe arm is bent a bit,the rear Fournales strut was weeping a bit,but now seems to have stopped, and I think it might have dislodged the rear caliped pistons a bit, because it was weeping brake fluid as well.
Got back to the Wirral alright, and then back to Worcester on Monday with no problems(apart from the bevel bearing complaining a bit)
I had a hospital appointment in Bath yesterday,so I took the bike.Sailed down there, not a worry in the world. On the way back 30-40mph coming out of Bath, the bike made a noise like a bucket of spanners in a tumble dryer for 2 seconds, and then locked the back wheel up for another second or two,and then freed up again.Clean pants all round then.
The bike is locked in the garage in disgrace at the moment, but I think next week might be an expensive one
