Hi all

I am considering changing to a GS from a Fazer 1000! I did test ride a GS some years ago and being now older and the lady wanting a bit more comfort when touring the GS seems to fit the bill.

I cannot afford new so I am looking at second hand. Are there any models/years to avoid. What are the major issues, if any with the WC GS?

Would someone enlighten me please?

Thanks

Shiney side up is best

Welcome to the site Timbo :thumb

Sounds like you'll be on the lookout for a fairly recent one if you're interested in the WC .....if it's an older oil head ( early 1200's) avoid servo brakes, but other than that, have a good look around the relevant sections on here and all the info will be there :beerjug:

I changed from a Fazer 1000 to a GS back in 2005 and have not looked back. Now on a GS LC after 2 older GS and 3 K1300r!!

Go for it the wife loves the GS to!

Hi Timbo
Changed recently myself to 2014 lc from a triumph trophy and other than the usual notchy gearbox love the bike,
Only down side is so much bling and add on's a big after purchess wallet may be called for if you are into personalizing your bike

Welcome :)

I too had a Fazer 1000, that i converted into something special, cracking tool.

Nah the Blue colour is always the fastest :)

Ventura rails ! Brill bit of kit, i used to travel everywhere with it on various bikes, so easy and quick.

I had 2 Fazer thous a black 02 and a silver 54 plate and I both Ivanised them and they could go like f**k.
Changed the 54 for an 09 Hayabusa then after 3 years got a 2014 GS LC but I would have Gen1 Fazer thou again anytime brilliant bike.

Try a late Twin cam against an early WC and see which you prefer. Arguably the TC is the last 'proper' GS whilst the WC is a bit of a Mulitstrada clone (only joking)

Back on track..

I agree, I've had 2 WC both went back for a refund and i had that many problems, you would not believe the hassle i had with them, however the wc is a great bike if get a gud'un, its a bit like a lottery tho, most owners say they don't have issues but there's plenty that do, BMW will get it right but i think it will be a year or so down the line, i would have another but not yet, a couple of yrs when they sorted quality control out.

So from a WC to ! I brought a low mile 2010 twin cam gs and I'm looking a GSA version now, the late twin cam is the final finished product and BMW got this bike right, it ain't as fast as a WC but gs bikes are not about being fast ! There's less to go wrong on the twin cam, and if i was a newbie to the gs range id start with a twin cam that way you guarantee your relationship will not be tarnished if you get a duffer of a WC.

If your not a numberplate tart try an 1150 GSA they are still a great bike I still have mine aswell as a new GSA te, I rode a ton of Hexheads early and late models and could never justify the difference in money for the 1200 cracking bike don't get me wrong and I still think they are a great looker too just not worth the money difference over an 1150, the new ones are great but have no soul, which ever one you buy you'll never look back ,welcome to the asylum :-)

Thanks for all the replies.

As a point of interest my Fazer is Ivanised and yes it really does go like a rocket. I'll miss it if I do change.

I take it hen the recommend is a 2010 ish 1200 then?

Whats the TE designation?

Sussed it I think TE is the LC version

Would a 12 plate Triple Black be a good choice then??

Triple black would be a great buy, limited edition models hold there value even more so..

Pidcocks have a 2012 twin cam triple black with just over 3k its immaculate i had a browse around it and could not fault it, several extras fitted also, bonus if your short as it a factory low version .

For me the twin cam gas is the one to have depends on your budget but I got off my blackbird and onto a very low mileage 2013 gsa for £11k just go into either vines or park lane with the attitude that they want your money and don't move until you get the deal you want
