I had a 13GSW, 9500 klm blown gearbox and by association the engine gets all the gearbox metal so that needed a rebuild too.
BMW gave me a new 15 GS for just AU $3K over my 13 trade in. After 15 mths of ownership I thought that was a good deal for a cheap upgrade.
I love the LC GS, it is so many different bikes in one with the load carrying capacity and electronics. The GS in Dynamic mode is ample power for 99% of riders. I have to hang on to the grips when I dump the throttle, works for me.
The lesson here is whatever you buy make sure it is in warranty...
