Is that gap there to allow heat expansion? Or lateral movement in some way?
Would filling the gap create unwanted pressure on engine casing?
mmm, good point. However, and only IMHO, I dount the gap is for heat expansion as the rattle tends to be restricted to the cylinder that fails rath than both. As for pressure the same applies. I`m not saying this is the case but it could be a fair assumption in another parallel universe that the shaft case hardnening has failed (due to penny pinching).
As for machining a brand new shaft - thats within my abilities and resources but as I said I`m going for another answer first!
